Is this news, or reporting GOP talking points?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14187315/from/RS.1/

"BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - The head of the Republican Party accused Democrats of being willing to surrender the tools necessary to combat terrorism as the GOP tries to capitalize on its national security advantage in a tough election year.

Faced with President Bush’s low approval ratings and diminishing support for the Iraq war, the Republican strategy is to make the war on terrorism a central campaign issue and argue that Democrats hold a pre-Sept. 11 view of the world."

4. Yes, a pre-Sept. 11 world view is what I hold. It is a view of the world
before the insane took over my country. The world did not change on 9-11. Americans fear and insanity became exposed and that is all.

6. Republicans hold a pre-Iraq invasion fiasco world view.
Edited on Fri Aug-04-06 03:10 PM by bluerum
They act like this is 2001 - like nothing has changed while we pour billions into a failed effort. Policies derived from the republican pre-Iraq invasion fiasco world view are failures. Instead of working on solving the very real problems that exist in the ME they hammer at the "weak on defense" strawman.

Perhaps some limited military success was achieved in the ME but to what end? What have we gained? How have we improved the world?

There appears to have been little diplomatic progress with any nation in the ME. In fact, I would say that the republican pre-Iraq invasion fiasco world view has led to substantial deterioration of our diplomatic relations with the ME as a whole and most of the rest of the world.

It seems to me, that

  1. pissing off everyone in the world is NOT going to improve our national security.

  2. Weakening our financial and economic strength at home is NOT going to improve our national security.

  3. Blaming the "weak on the defense" strawman for existing failed policies seems oddly incongruent and clearly does not improve national security.

  4. Transferring national resources to the pockets of the already rich does little to improve national security.

7. The Republican's national security advantage
ranks right up there with the liberal media myth. And if the Democratic Party has a pre-911 view of the world the Republicans have a pre-Magna Carta view.
