The Message of the Democratic Party
As my first topic for these boards, I believe this to be the most important we should be discussing in these forums.

Cleaning up the "culture of corruption". It sounds really good to us here on this board. It is something I would truly like to see happen. However, most voters I talk to, myself included, feel that this message is at best naive optimism, and at worst, shameless pandering. I don't believe that if the Democrats get back into power in the halls of congress, very much will change at all as far as corruption is concerned. It is a problem that has plagued both parties at all levels of government.

That being said, what message should we be taking to voters this year?

I believe we need to focus our energy on the war in Iraq and the failure of Bush policies here at home. I was thrilled to see Hilary Clinton (despite what you may think of her) ripping into Rumsfeld at the defense hearing. We need to start raising our voices and speaking as a party, making a real commitment to bring our troops home as soon as possible. We need to counterattack those who call us "cut and runners". We need to rekindle the images of a Bush administration that was totally disconnected to the misery befallen upon the gulf states last year. And the Republican's seeming unwillingness to ameliorate any of these problems. This is a party that is disconnected from mainstream America. They simply don't care about the problems that face middle and working class Americans. They'd rather focus on gay marriage and flag burning then soaring health care costs and rising gas prices. They will only raise the minimum wage for millions of Americans if a few thousand of the elite receive millions in tax cuts.

We need to show Americans that the Democratic Party truly is the party of the people.

Our slogan for 2006 should be, "Rebuild New Orleans, Not Baghdad"

1. Screw The Message
Get out the vote. People are incredibly pissed off. Make phone calls to voters and you will find that out.

You want issues. War, Economy, Enviroment, Fear Mongering, Defecits, China Owning the US. America committing war crimes.

Really, and I can't stress this enough.

Fuck the issues, we need a Dem Congress or millions more will die and America will go bankrupt.

Get out the vote. Quit fighting Dems. Screw the media, they are the enemy.

2. Rebuild America, Not Bagdad
Enough of the rant.

That is a good slogan. But sorry, we are broke. Now we can try a time machine to go back in time and put all that money blown in Iraq into America, but not too likely at this point.

I really do wish we could rebuild America. Imagine finding jobs for poor in inner cities to build their schools and neighborhoods. That could make crime practically disappear.

But right now, at this point, inner cities look a lot like Bagdad. And yes, both sides are to blame. We are a Country that is built on wars. And that will be where all the money go.

But if you want a chance. You had better elect Dems. Because the third party just ain't there.

4. I think we ought to go the John Edwards route ...
Use the "Two Americas" theme. The minimum wage/estate tax situation is a perfect example of who this administration cares about -- we need to stress the fact that Democrats value WORK OVER WEALTH, whereas the Repugs' "values" are the reverse.

5. How about this one: "HAD ENOUGH?"
It's not original to me. Saw it on needlenose.com (an offshoot of Daily Kos). They have a great series of pictures, such as pics of $3.00/gallon for Regular Gas, and under each picture it just says, "Had enough? Vote Democratic."

6. Tell the American people the TRUTH and give them an open government.
That has been the theme I've heard from both Kerry and Dean and I think it's the STRONGEST.

As an open government, anti-corruption Democrat, I'm especially pleased.
