Who Dresses Hillary?.......
I don't know if this has ever come up here before in DU - but - everytime I see Hillary she's wearing a bright colored outfit. Yesterday it was 'peacock blue'. I've seen her in bright pink, yellow, lime green - all bright colors. She usually stands out in a crowd as opposed to her female colleagues in the Congress that dress more subdued.

I'm just curious - does she have a fashion consultant that advises her? Is her wearing of the bright colors done intentionally?
What do you women DUer's think of her clothes? Would this style do well for her if she were to be elected president?

And as an aside - does she ever wear a dress? I mostly see her in pantsuits.

1. Colors are wonderful
They are definitely getting her noticed. Also, I see her in skirts frequently.

I can't say who dresses her because I'm not in to that even for myself.

I always wear black, black, black.
Same in summer---maybe add some white or khaki.

i just spent some time in London
and
I saw so many women dressed in pretty, lighter brighter colors.
They looked so wonderful, and I felt drab.

Made me think about buying some pretty tops. Oh, and Hillary looks great in blue.

2. I've seen her in a few 'dress suits' ...
... they're not very flattering on her, IMO. She's got hugely unattractive calves and ankles. (Ok, flame me for making a sexist comment or being a Hillary-Hater or WTF-ever. Then get over yourselves. :eyes: )

I never thought about the color choices as being intentional, but you're right - she does 'stand out' from the crowd. Hmmm. Might be a strategy, might be a personal choice.

is what she usually wears.
She has a consultant.

i don't care for her style, (the pantsuits) but it seems to fit
with her career....I like the colors.

She used to wear skirts more often ---she's got thick straight legs
so the pants do work well on her.

4. Who dresses Jack Murtha?
I mean, he's always wearing those blue blazers and tan or gray pants.

I wonder who his fashion consultant is. Are they advising him that left-leaning Republicans like this and it's making him stand out in a crowd.

:sarcasm:

Do you get the point?

WTF CARES what she wears? Why do we keep judging women by their hair, clothes and makeup? :eyes:

5. She joked after her first NY campaign about her black pantsuits...
which got her through the months of campaigning. It could be the color is meant to "soften" her image. She may have some fashion advice, because in her younger days she was notoriously uninterested in fashion and had a "hippie" look that most Arkansans didn't like. In any case, I think she's looking great.

13. I think the black was just for practical purposes - doesn't show dirt
or stains for a candidate that has to do a huge amount of traveling.

I think the bright colors reflect her personality. If you've seen any interviews with her - when she let her guard down- she has a great sense of humor.

Also, in her autobiography, she said the thing she likes best about her husband is "He makes me laugh - and you know how important to me that is."

And yes, she has inherited large legs - for the rest of her body size. My poor niece inherited her big legs from her mother. She can be skinny as a rail, but her legs are "the curse of my existence." ( Her quote, not min.)

And yeh, Hillary has heavy legs. That's an inherited thing; you either have good legs or you don't and weight doesn't matter much.

7. I'm sure she does have a consultant, but, clothing color is almost
always a personal choice. Think about where you work. There are some women who only wear subdued colors because that's what THEY LIKE! Likewise, some other women consistantly wear bright colors or a certain style because it's THEIR preference.

It doesn't only apply to women either. It's not quite as noticable with men, especially if you are working in an office atmosphere becaue their options are limited, but you do see some men who ALWAYS wear a "wild tie", or a bright pink or purple shirt.

Mostly, I think it displays a person's personality.

No I don't think it would impact her if she were to be elected President.

Poor fashion sense has much more impact on a public figure's image than color or style. Look at the comments we've seen here on DU about Laura Bush! Even I have made derogatory comments about the one really stupid blue checked shirt Shrub wears a lot, and that it looks like he's wearing his PJ's!

10. I like her clothes, I saw her speak in

Orange County 2 years ago. She was awesome!

That day she had on pants(don't remember what color) and a blouse. Then she had a sweater tied around her neck, it looked sharp.

When she walks onto the stage, it is magical. She has such poise and style.

She COMMANDS the stage and has a speaking style, without notes, that reminds you of the days of Harry Truman. She knocks her remarks out of the ball park.

Home run for Hillary!

14. She almost certainly has a personal shopper
I can't imagine running into Hillary trying on outfits in the cattle-call dressing rooms at Loehmann's. When would she have time to shop for herself? I'm sure her shopper understands the Senator's taste and tries to select apparel for her that is appropriate to her position as well as her age and body type. Color is the big seller at Neiman-Marcus and this may indicate that she is gearing up for a national run. Lots of working women, especially working women in the big middle of the country can relate to pastel suits with no points off for pantsuits.

37. That's a pretty intriguing point, actually.
The way she may be positioning herself... dress for success and all that. I bet she does have some sort of personal shopper - or maybe she orders out of catalogues like a couple of the local anchorwomen here always said they did, because they never had time to go out and do any actual shopping. Heck, I don't have time to go shopping, and I'm in a FAR lower-profile position than she'll ever be.

16. before
she became our last first lady whose husband was duly elected by the democratic process known as vox populii (popular voice, or popular vote), she had a reputation for not knowing how to dress... in fact, her checkered suit (skirt and jacket and the accompanying blue hat) that she wore during clinton's first inauguration was horrible. i think CAROLINA HERRERA did some of her wardrobe after she became FIRST LADY. i don't know if she still visits CAROLINA HERRERA's haute couture but her pant suits are definitely an improvement...and as for her not wearing dresses or skirts, darn, pants are so much more comfortable!

and with all the serious differences most of us still have with Senator Clinton on so many issues of War and Peace, that we are talking about her CLOTHES.

When was the last time we discussed Nader's clothes?... Or Bush's clothes? (okay, his COSTUMES are sometimes in question, but I'm talking day-to-day clothes.)

It's kind of sexist, and if I'm being too sensitive, and you don't see it as sexist, isn't it at least a little shallow?

Ask who's advising her on her positions of War and Peace.

Ask what lobby is coaxing her with their $$$ to support the current ME status quo with no call for a ceasfire.

Ask why she feels she has to triangulate so far to the right in order to be a viable candidate for the Presidency.

Ask why she feels the cynical policies of the DLC are okay with her....

Ask legitimate questions! But, for gawdssake, who cares WHAT she's wearing??????????????

21. True....
I can see your point, but still....

There's nothing about Hillary I find funny. (I tried once this morning, in another thread, and failed miserably) I feel she is the Apocalypse for the Democratic Party. She has MOST of the money, a sh*tload of corporate support, the media is ramming her down our throats day and night, the Republicans want to run against her more than anyone so they can rally their base against us... she is UNELECTABLE, yet most viable, and THAT says at least 4 more years of Republicans in the WH to me. I ain't laughing.

And by that I mean, no politican can or will be a fashion plate. It would make them too easy a target. Which is why most don't wear dresses - or if they do, they are dress/jacket coordinates. As for the bright colors, I think it's as "daring" as a politician can go - and I like it!

38. I am a clothes-conscious individual--honestly!
But I will say I never really think about what Mrs. Clinton wears. But I will this once:

She's a pale skinned, light-haired, over-50 individual. As we scrutinize women's clothes more closely, her choices are to that degree more restricted.

As to pants--I love pants, myself. I have cankles (calves that go right to the ankles wih no "slendering"--I'll damn well admit it) and if a woman had cankles--she can wear pants. And men wear pants, if you didn't notice. If Mrs. Clinton wants to wear pantsuits--she maybe ought to. It's less of a problem, standing, sitting, wearing nylons--damn--pantsuits are good.

Dresses though--usually are not flattering. You must be the same size top and bottom to wear a dress well. You can not be a, say, size eight top and size twelve bottom. Your upper body may well seem swamped by a fitted dress, and your lower half draped unflatteringly. Or, you may have a well-fitted top--but a drastically sausage-y bottom. Not nice, Not attractive. So you need to find separates that downplay any disparity. Thus--suiting. Separates.

As to color--she is light--skin, hair. Black is slenderizing, but dulls face tones, especially if one is mature. Colors bring out the radiance of what is actually, good skin (I think Hillary has a good, even complexion) and add a "glow". Some bright colors may be better for her than others--I think peacock blue is lovely. Pink would be also. A "Nancy Reagan" red might be too much. But to be taken seriously from a campaign p.o.v.--black, navy (ah--navy--a color, but not) and tan, may be key to really being taken seriously.

This is Hillary, for crying out loud. She don't bake cookies. Get those pantsuits tailored nicely, and don't forget to highlight your hair--it's very flattering to light skin to have golden undertones. Perhaps consider a reddish low-lighting.

Tell your hairdresser Vixengrl said so. And no lime green--it just has bad connotations. Leisure suits. Too close to mint or avocado.

Damn, my advice is so Glamour Magazine.
