K Street Project Corruption Alert: Sen. Harry Reid Pressures K Street Not to Lobby For Tax Cuts

WASHINGTON, Aug. 3 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was released today by the K Street Project on Sen. Harry Reid and tax cuts:

The K Street Project has recently heard from repeated and credible sources that Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and his taxpayer-funded staff are telling the D.C. lobbying community not to lobby on the Estate Tax and Extension of Tax Relief Act of 2006 coming for a vote either this afternoon or tomorrow.

This is corruption -- the type of corruption between K Street and the Hill that American taxpayers hate and want to rid their government of. This is precisely the reason the K Street Project exists to highlight the undemocratic practices and pressure that hiring for access brings on the business community.

If businesses, corporations and trade associations hire lobbyists from leadership offices that are in opposition to their interests, then one has hired a lobbyist for access and not based on free-market, business principles, who are then more loyal to their former employer. When this occurs, the business community can continue to expect such corrupt interference from the Hill.

K Street Project (KSP) is non-partisan research of political affiliation, employment background and political donations of members in Washington's premier lobbying firms, trade associations and industries. For more information, please contact KSP at info@kstreetproject.com.

1. Wait, what?
Did I read that right?

Are they complaining that lobbyists are being corrupted by legislators?

The sound you're hearing is my brain imploding.

They just say "this is corruption", but they don't explain how.

6. This is a Radical Republican group.

Remember how Grover "Nazi" Norquist was gonna trademark the phrase "K Street Project" a while back? This may be a part of that. Anyways... I found this:

"K Street Project.com

So the fabulous Hotline on Call blog managed to track down the website for the K Street Project. This site is clearly designed to put a nonpartisan face (!) on the practice of lobbyist hiring in Washington, and to attack back at Democrats "

9. It's an anti-Democratic, anti-consumer, anti-American stinktank
funded by big business.

Calling themselves "non-partisan" is a laff-riot!

10. How can they be non-partisan when they were created by the GOP?
and would you expect them not to spout GOP rhetoric when their side is in trouble? The GOP is simply doing everything they can to move the "corruption issue" from solidly Republican to a bipartisan issue.
