Responsible for 9/11- Reagan or Clinton?
Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 09:33 AM by underpants
The MSM has me so confused on who to blame! but is very clear on who NOT to blame (wink)

Ann Coulter seems to be blaming Reagan. Oh and you have to LOVE the Grenada comment.

Coulter stated: "We shoot a few ... rockets into Syria as we're pulling out of Beirut, after Hezbollah kills 241 of our Marines in 1983. We always have a little skirmish with them and then pull out again. Well, OK. You keep doing that and after 30 years, you get 9-11." Coulter's assertion came less than one week after she credited former President Ronald Reagan, in a July 26 column, with achieving "an amazing, historic pause in Muslim extremists' relentless war on America" between 1988 and 1993, after he "won the Cold War."

NOTE - in this column from 2 1/2 years ago Ann blames the Democrats in Congress (Republicans were the majority in the Senate).

NOTE- Ann has done this before. Ignoring the ELEVEN Muslim extremeist terrorist attacks during the Reagan administration and giving him credit for the ZERO attacks during Poppa Bush's administration.

(On Cuba) COULTER: That's what I've heard. That's why I'm not looking at this with bright prospects, though, I mean, it's a tiny little tin pot dictatorship. Why not make this George Bush's Grenada? How about taking this guy out?

Matthews: "We know" President Clinton "didn't stop" 9-11

MATTHEWS: Who was president from '93 to 2001? Who was president of the United States?

GREEN: You know the answer.

MATTHEWS: Bill Clinton. Do you think he did a good job of stopping a second attack on the World Trade Center when he was president for eight years?

GREEN: We can't know whether he stopped it. Richard Clarke --

MATTHEWS: We know he didn't stop it.

1. I blame Taft
I mean, if he had done a better job in 1912, he could have been prez when WW I broke out, and not made Wilson's mistakes..Then we could have taken over Iraq and Palestine from the british and fixed all the problems a long time ago...:silly: :sarcasm:

2. Tweety and Coulter -- I'm enjoying their decline.
btw -- 9/11 was the fault of 19 crazed bastards in the planes. Hindsight about preventing the attacks is a useless exercise; who better to participate in such chatter than Coulter and Matthews?

6. It's funny - Osama bin Laden was not on the Reichwingnuts' radar
even after ObL was shown to have had a hand in the 10/12/2000 attack on the USS Cole (October Surprise redux?).

You would think that you would have found constant references to ObL in all the Reich-wing books published prior to 9/11/2001 ... denouncing Bill Clinton or Al Gore's "laziness" ... especially if they believed that crap about Ollie North saying that ObL was the world's most dangerous man and A.G. "blocking the capture" of ObL. (BTW, debunked by none other than Ollie himself) ...

Also since you always hear Clinton being blamed for doing nothing about ObL after the US embassies were attacked ...

7. Time and space no longer seem to matter
on Ollie I don't know about him debunking his own statement though that really wouldn't surprise me but I did run into the late Col. Hackworth's assessment of North and found out something I did not know about:

David Hackworth on Oliver North
Source: Playboy, June 1994 v41 n6 p90(5).

http://www.airborne-ranger.com/ranger/wannabees/OllieNorth.html

Between 1969 and 1974 he spent most of his time in offices and classrooms and on training assignments. In late 1974 he again took charge of troops when he became a company commander, as a captain, on Okinawa. Just 29 days into the assignment, North--described to me by a follow officer who saw him at the time as an "emotional wreck"--surrendered his command.

He returned to the U.S., where he spent as much as three weeks at Bethesda Naval Hospital for some deep-shrinking by psychiatrists. The episode is shrouded in mystery. North himself is vague about it in Under Fire, his autobiography published reports that parts of his medical record were expunged. Meanwhile, there have been published reports (which North never legally challenged) that provide details about the apparent nervous breakdown. In one account he ran around naked, babbling incoherently and waving a .45 pistol.

WHAT HAPPENED IN OKINAWA OLLIE?

10. It's not Ollie "debunking his own statement"
It's that the Reichwingers tried to smear Al Gore using Ollie North's testimony in the Iran-Contra hearings, and Ollie got so fed up with people using the lie that he was "scared" of ObL that he personally said it on his web site that the story was untrue.

I don't want to dirty myself by going to his site to get the link, so here's the snopes link:

11. Oh yeah the Abu Nidal story
Sorry I didn't catch that at first.

From the Hackworth article

North also dealt with other people who dwelt in the terrorist sewer. Back in 1987 he testified that terrorist Abu Nidal wanted him dead. I was, North said, Nidal's threats that made him install the security system. Nidal and his associates must have had a good laugh when they saw how North had fooled the American public. They knew about Ollie. abu Nidal and Ollie bought weapons from the same Syrian arms dealer. Monzer al-Kassar. So did Abul Abbas, the man who carried out the seizure of the Achille Lauro and the murder of Leon Klinghoffer. The terrorist underworld wanted a patsy like Ollie alive and doing business.

Just asking, since being prez is 'hard work'.

BTW, only 33 FAA Air Marshals were on duty on 9-11 (according to the 9-11 Commission Report sec 3); couldn't Chimpy simply have hired more or put active duty military in mufti on planes armed ? I hear that military MPs are pretty competent with firearms, but I could be wrong.

15. George W. Bush
One thing people have to remember, this occurred on his watch, so the buck stops with the Commander in Chief and his "lack of curiosity" which proved fatal for New Orleans' Katrina victims also.
