Gary Pajcic

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A well-known attorney and philanthropist is brain dead.

Gary Pajcic, of Pajcic and Pajcic, is on life support, but Bob Link, a longtime friend, says Pajcic will be taken off life support sometime Wednesday afternoon.

Link says Pajcic was put on life-support to give family members time to get to the hospital.

His firm says he was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital Sunday morning where he later lapsed into a coma.

No official word on the cause of his hospitalization.

And some interesting, recurring names in this related article:

Pajcic a prominent Crist supporter

TALLAHASSEE — They call themselves “Floridians for a Better and Brighter Future,” and their primary interest appears to be Charlie Crist’s political future.

The committee’s president is Christopher LaCivita, a Republican operative in Richmond, Va., who produced the “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth” ads in 2004 that attacked Democrat John Kerry’s Vietnam war record.

Some other large donors to the committee (Floridians for a Better and Brighter Future) also have donated the $500 maximum to Crist’s campaign.

They include the Miccosukee Tribe of Florida, which gave $25,000; Albert’s Air Conditioning of Miami, $50,000; Century Home Builders of South Florida, $50,000; and Century Partners Group of Miami, $25,000. The latter two companies are controlled by developer Sergio Pino, who gained “Ranger” status for raising at least $200,000 for the Bush-Cheney ticket in the 2004 presidential election.

Another donor to the committee is Pajcic & Pajcic, a Jacksonville law firm, which gave $7,500. Its principals, brothers Gary and Steve Pajcic, once the Democratic nominee for governor, donate generously to Democrats (Gary Pajcic has donated $500 to Crist’s campaign).

Crist has been under attack from Gallagher supporters for accepting contributions from “liberal trial lawyers.”

Pajcic, like most trial attorneys, has most often been involved with Democrats. But in this election, trial attorneys are throwing substantial support to Crist, backing away from their usual Democratic support.

5. Rare form of viral encephalitis. Autopsy pending.
Death stuns city's legal community

snip

Gary Pajcic, a former football star who used the fruits of his successful Jacksonville law practice to help others from his boyhood blue-collar neighborhood, died about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday of a rare form of viral encephalitis. He had been on life support after having a seizure Sunday at his summer home on Amelia island. He was 58.

snip

An autopsy will be performed to try to determine the cause of the encephalitis, which can be caused by viral infection from mosquitoes, ticks and other insects or by a bacterial infection.

This is a very good article about his life, friends, and stature in his career and community.
