Political Possiblities In The Wake Of DeLay's Ballot Saga

Mercifully, three judges from the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments today and begin working toward a decision that will, some day soon, allow me to stop writing about whether Tom DeLay will run for Congress again.

This twisty case has had so many surprise developments I’ve been forced to summarize it at least 20 times in these web pages over the past two months. Not that I mean to complain.

But I figure every human has only so many keyboard taps left in his or her fingertips before Time is Up. So in an attempt to extend my mortality just a little, I’d like to shorten this case summary from five or six paragraphs to one, and just make the whole thing a hot link to all the stories any reader would need to become appropriately clued in. Maybe something like:

DeLay tired of being the Democrats’ poster boy for GOP corruption, moved out of state, quit Congress and the race for Congress. Nobody’d ever done that before, so the Democrats waited until the last possible minute and sued for the right to keep Republicans tied up in court for as many weeks as possible to bolox the GOP’s campaigning ability. The case will be on appeal indefinitely.

How’s that?

...lots more...
