why does Carter get such Hate from the repukes
I actually got a Carter Essay published when I was in college. The title was An Ethical presidency in an unethical world.

Talked about how he tried to do so much good and be so honest and that everyone around him pretty much f@#%ed him over

1. Probably he is a true Christian and they fear that if people
start comparing them to Carter, said people may see what a Christian should be.

and one part rove-induced talking points.

And he thouroughly understands the Fundie mindset.

And he had the gall to muck up the WH roof line w/solar cells.

3. Because he's a decent human being who still works for humanitarian
causes instead of playing golf, working for the arm's traders, or trying to figure out how to fuck over human beings. This is exactly why the right despises him.

people with inferiority complexes feel threatened by anyone as capable as Carter.

5. I think it was stuff like the high interest rates
and did the stock market go to hell, then, too? (I remember my (R)dad being mad about that sort of stuff),

I wonder how much of that was sabotage by "the vast right wing conspiracy" or something or other.

Like the CIA and the hostage "crisis" - that was "resolved" the day Reagan was inaugurated.

8. The problem with interest rates and the stock market was the
Fed Chairman, Paul Volker, not Carter. I don't think the hostage crisis was Carters fault either, but he was Prez at the time, so I guess he has to take the hit for that.

Even if you blame him for all the bad things of that time, including high unemployment, that doesn't answer why they still hate him today. I've had people here in Ga. tell me they hate him, and tell me I'm crazy when I say he's the best EX prez the US has ever had!

6. I really don't know. I live in Ga now, but I'm originally from Pa.
I always like Carter, and I'm constantly shocked by the number of Georgians who hate him. He's everything they say they want in a politician. He's intelligent, well spoken, a Baptist, honest, is against abortion but believes in upholding established law, doesn't like the idea of gay marriage but agrees with State sanctioned unions.

I really can't figure out why they don't like him at all!

Hell, they were even pi**ed when he won the Nobel Peace Prize. Said he didn't deserve it!

they can't stand to see what a good Republican would look like..whether it be Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton!

Stagflation began under Nixon and Ford, but they blame it all on Carter.

The hostages were released alive under Carter, but they give the credit to Reagan.

Vietnam was lost under Nixon's watch, but they still only blame the Democrats.

Nixon resigned because he broke the law, but Republicans blame Democrats for lawlessness.

Each Democrat from Truman to Carter did more to bring Communism down than any single Republican did, but Carter is blamed for being weak on defense.

Carter demonstrated what a true Christian conservative can be, but liberalism must be blamed!

Carter proved that every problem can be solved when one has a positive attitude, Republicans need these problems to attack any problem solver seeking power.

Neocons still blame Democrats like Kennedy, Clinton, and Carter for demonstrating how hollow Republicans really are..when will they balance the budget, enforce the law, stand up for morality, defeat terrorism, and do a good job for the taxpayers?

35. True, but how do you explain the reaming he took from his
"allies" in the Democratic Party? He made some mistakes, but he accomplished more than any President in my lifetime. including bringing peace to the ME. I mean, what do you want?

I think the bottom line is that we don't want to do the right thing, we want the amerikan empire. Correction, we demand the amerikan empire.

16. It's their way: attack everything your opponent respects.
Even if it is something they too should respect. This is the Ayn Rand, Ann Coulter, Straussian, Rovian BS strategy that these monsters are using to destroy this country. But in so doing, they refuse to realize that their souls are being sold to the devil.

23. He's a man of peace in PNAC's age of neverending war....
He's got influence as a former President, so he is probably seen as being able to upset their little apple-cart if enough people listen to what he's saying...

He believes in negotiation instead of bombing.

I dunno. Those are only a few reasons.

24. Because as the WORST President EVER, GW Bush needs...
as many Dems as possible to look bad. On the economic front, Carter's record does not look so good....and the constant pounding now makes it easier for the Shrub to compare favorable. Just think if they didn't pound on Carter, Bush would stick out like a sore thumb. Clearly the worst President EVER....and he has not yet completed his presidency.

Actually if we work at it, maybe we can ensure that he NEVER finishes his presidency...Impeachment is the word.

25. Because they thought he was one of them until he took office
Prior to 1980, the parties were not strictly liberal or conservative. In fact, in some areas, republicans were far more progressive than dems, because the southern democrats and racism were so connected. There were liberal republicans like Ford in office. The conservative movement was not so allied with the religious right at the time-a lot of the evangelicals voted for Carter (because he was known as a Southern Baptist and Sunday School teacher) not knowing he was a liberal at heart, and felt betrayed when his policies were very liberal.

On top of that, he wasn't a very good president. A good man, of course, one of the best. The economy tanked under his leadership and the Iran hostage situation was a black mark on his presidency.

31. Because he's a gentleman , a statesman, who put country before his own
special interests. The GOP has to dehumanize a good man like President Carter, because if Americans are reminded of what a mature, critical thinking person he is, then we may demand a statesman instead of a immature frat boy drunkard who is a global embarrassment.
