I suspect that McKinney's sex and race are more of an issue for those who support her than those who oppose her.

There are a non-trivial number of DUers who assume that in any dispute between a black woman and a police officer, the police officer must be wrong.

For what it's worth, I'm hoping McKinney loses the primary, whether or not she did something wrong, because enough people *think* she did something wrong. In any field other than politics, the important thing would be to find out whether she was actually guilty, and we'd have a responsibility to support her if she hadn't. However, I don't think such concerns should be applied in politics. We should be picking a candidate based purely on getting the person who we think will help promote the policies we're in favour of; being fair to one candidate or another's career should not be a concern. Politicians should exist only to serve; those politicians who can best serve by not being elected should do so.

The issue is not "Did McKinney do anything wrong", but "How many people think Cynthia McKinney did something wrong". Politics is, by necessity, one of the most cutthroat and unfair careers there is.
