Desperate McKinney, Johnson clash over finances, donors
In their first face-to-face televised debate, Desperate U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney and Hank Johnson, the local politician who forced her into Democratic runoff, traded verbal jabs Monday on her voting record and his past financial problems.

Desperate McKinney pounced on Johnson's past debts, including a bankruptcy and overdue taxes, which the inumbent highlights in a new 60-second radio ad. The spot also accuses Johnson of ethical violations while he was a DeKalb County commissioner, claiming he accepted a $1,000 campaign contribution from landfill developers.

Johnson has built momentum going into the runoff, reporting an increase in contributions. His financial supporters include former Democratic Gov. Roy Barnes, former GOP state Rep. Emory Morsberger, Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus and Barnes' former GOP gubernatorial rival, Guy Millner. Earlier Monday, Johnson received the endorsement of each of the district's three sheriffs: DeKalb's Thomas Brown, Gwinnett's R.L. "Butch" Conway and Rockdale's Jeff Wigington.

Desperate McKinney criticized Johnson for receiving $16,000 in contributions from Republicans during the primary. She charged that some of those people were "against the Voting Rights Act." She also charged that Johnson took money from developers and special interest groups.

The Desperate congresswoman appeared at ease throughout the debate, often telling the panelists she was happy they asked a particular question and flashing her wide smile. She often cut in, asking if she could respond to Johnson's charges. The former commissioner, by contrast, appeared more reserved.

1. You need to identify for the readers that you are adding the "desperate"
to the quoted material. That is not in the linked article. It may be your opinion, but it makes a reader like me wonder what kind of newspaper would print such editoral comments as news.

2. Just a question.
"Desperate McKinney" does not appear in the article. Why add that to the original text?

Not disputing it, just asking.

and is flailing desperately.....and they've begun flailing as well.

It's what passes as humor among the humorless....

6. She certainly appeared to be "Desperate" alright.
You do yourself a disservice with this type of lame editorializing and attempting to pass it of as a valid news article. I held you in high esteem than that.

I'm thick! Sorry, I'm embarrassed. Not for the first time, mouth, well keyboard, quicker than brain. Please accept my apology, it was so out of character for the Catwoman, I was blown away-but now days people are continually freaking me out here!

16. More bad news for Hank: SoVo backs CMac
The Human Rights Campaign has endorsed McKinney and has given her a 100 percent score — with extra credit, I might add — for her support of the gay lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

BEFORE YOU THINK MCKINNEY’S opponent, Hank Johnson, is your friend, think about the fact that his office had, until this week, refused to return phone calls from Southern Voice to clarify his positions on GLBT issues.

So whereas McKinney has been proud of her continued support of GLBT rights, Republican-supported Johnson appears to have something to hide.

SO THE QUESTION FOR GAY VOTERS, and all of the voters in the 4th Congressional District, is should we vote based on media portrayals? Or shall we be principled and examine McKinney’s superb voting record?

Don’t be fooled. McKinney has supported you all this time; we all need her back in Congress.

17. McKinney also didn't respond to requests to interview either
According to this article:

http://sovo.com/2006/7-28/news/localnews/candidates.cfm

--snip--
McKinney, whose campaign did not respond to repeated interview requests by press time, has long received a perfect score on HRC’s congressional report card. But Johnson also expressed strong support for gay rights causes in an interview with Southern Voice July 25.
--snip--
During a March meeting with McKinney’s father, Billy McKinney, gay and lesbian constituents criticized the Congress member for her silence on gay issues since returning to Congress in 2005.

Billy McKinney suggested gay groups should endorse his daughter before she would take those stands. McKinney was not yet a co-sponsor of the bill repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” at the time she was endorsed by HRC, but currently supports six of the organization’s 10 positions on legislation pending in Congress.
--snip--

So this doesn't really prove anything.

19. That's not what I said
The area of the article you posted made it appear as though Johnson had something to hide by putting off speaking with this magazine. This same magazine tried to speak with McKinney and she hasn't responded.
