Help save Democracy in Ohio
Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 06:36 PM by OhioBlue
The integrity of the vote is at the heart of our democracy. One of the most important things we can do to protect the integrity of the vote is to help get Jennifer Brunner elected to the office of the Ohio Secretary of State. Howard Dean has called this one of the two most important races this year.

Please help get Jennifer Brunner elected to the Office of Secretary of State for Ohio www.jenniferbrunner.com

Not only is it essential to Ohio to have a competent person with integrity in this office, it is essential for the County as we saw in the 2004 election. We all watched the long lines, listened to the stories of "machine malfunctions", read either the Conyers' report or the Robert Kennedy Jr. piece. We need to take do things that we can to improve this - Personally, I can't control the media or Congress, but I can donate and give my volunteer time to get an excellent person elected to this office.

She just may be the most qualified candidate to ever run for Ohio SOS. She is a former Common Pleas Court Judge, Elections Attorney representing local, statewide and presidential candidates, legislative caucuses, labor unions, businesses, associations, citizen groups and other organizations. She is a former member of the Franklin County Board of Elections, and a former Legislative Counsel and Deputy Director for the Office of Secretary of State.

She is competent, intelligent and has a great deal of integrity. She vows to administer elections in a fair, open and honest manner with a process that can be audited and verified, ensure equal distribution of voting machines and enforce laws against voter intimidation and fraud, honor the role of Secretary of State and not use the office to campaign for issues or candidates.

If you can, please donate or volunteer on her website at www.jenniferbrunner.com

Also - please spread the message, e-mail or tell your Dem friends. Many on DU wonder what's wrong with Ohio. Trust me, Dems in Ohio have been so frustrated. We are working our asses off at the grassroots level. The party infrastructure is improving, we have terrific candidates and the polls are in our favor. Getting Jennifer Brunner elected benefits us all. If she had been SOS in 2004, I believe we would have John Kerry as President and not be stuck with the embarrassment of the idiot that is *.

3. I have already written off OH
I'm sorry, that state will never be taken back peacefully. It's over there. Just as the people who run the country couldn't afford to let Smirk lose in 2004, lest there be investigations that led inevitably to prison terms for the whole rotten administration, the corrupt GOPin OH will never let go of power there. The few blacks and others in heavily Dem precincts who have not been scrubbed from the voter rolls by November will face long lines, confusing or incomprehensible instructions, and harrassment when they try to cast their ballots.

As an upside, I think that Strickland may win because Whitewell is such an abysmal candidate. Brown and Brunner will not. the best hope for change would be for Strickland, after he takes office, to prosecute Whitewell under the VRA for his myriad voilations while SoS. That might stem the tide, and if he can actually clean up the elections from the governor's mansion, OH will go blue again.

Also, when the next revoultion starts, it will be in OH, IMO.

4. that might be how it looks on the side lines
but it's not how it looks on the field - the tide is changing. Dems have the upper hand right now. We have great candidates! With Strickland pulling the top of the ticket - things look even better for State wide races! Don't throw in the flag for crying out loud, we are close - throw your support to Brunner or Strickland or Brown. I've heard many independents and even Republicans say they are voting Dem. I've heard NO Dems say they are voting R. And the Dems are PISSED and sure to vote.

We need positive energy, volunteerism and donations. We can win! We have to work for it and we have to invest in it. We absolutely CANNOT give up!

8. OK, if you say so
If you think that clear messages and positive energy can overcome voter fraud and corruption, you're probably in good shape. But I think alot of Dems who show up pissed at the polls on 11/7 are going to be more pissed when either their name isn't on the voter roll or there's a line three blocks long because Whitewell only sent one voting machine to that polling place. The man sent OH to Smirk two years ago, and the chicanery that took place that time will be dwarfed by what happens this time.

I'm glad that you and Ozark are upbeat, motivated and active. Overcoming the corruption in OH will require a Herculean effort, at least as it appears from over here in IL.

9. first of all
we need to encourage dems to vote absentee especially in urban areas. the State recently passed a no-fault early voting. we need to encourage Dems to vote absentee - avoid lines, avoid the machines and get their votes in early.

In all seriousness... aren't you GLAD that we're not giving up? Would you rather we sat on our hands and bitched about Blackwell and the f-ed up voting process? Cried in our beers about the corrupt Republicans? For me it is a Hell no - I'm gonna freakin' fight and I'm gonna turn out the vote for Dems.

You really need to come to Ohio and attend a Dem event to experience the energy. Rallies, events, parades, etc. have record turn out for Dems. There is a huge tide of positive energy and organization for Dems in Ohio. It is a GREAT thing!

5. You're in the minority, fortunately
the picture gets brighter and brighter for Dem candidates in Ohio. I heard last week that many of the races for state rep and state senate are also looking good for Dem turnover.

6. Exactly Ozark!
All things are pointing toward a positive result for Ohio Dems this year! We don't need defeatist attitudes dragging us down. This is a battleground State and we are currently ahead. We have to keep giving 110% to win this battle. I know we can. I can't wait until we have Senator Brown, Governor Strickland, SOS Brunner, et al, representing us.
:hi:

7. Absolutely
I overheard some Dems talking last week about how well Dems are doing in races for the Ohio General Assembly - something the state party hadn't paid much attention to. A lot of races they hadn'thought of putting money into are getting a second look now.

We really have to push the State Coordinated Campaign to include messages and support for Dem candidates farther down the ticket. Getting Strickland elected governor won't be enough if he doesn't have more Dems to work with in the General Assembly.
