Reason 12, 354 to NOT listen to Ed Schultz
He's a blowhard who's only interested in money, he's so much like limp-baugh it's scary.

He doesn't know SHIT about Cuba or Castro.

He'd turn on a dime if he thought he could make more money by going back to his right-wing bloviating roots.

I suspect that if he was pulled over for a DUI he'd curse the "fucking Liberals (who start all the wars)".

I've really had it with Schultz -- turn him off every day right after Al Franken finishes...

He's really not worth listening to.

2. I disagree to some extent
Although I don't agree with a lot of his views - I think he really is convinced that he's on the right side of these issues and is an 'old school' conservative Dem.

9. So was Strom Thurmond
:) :) :)

-------------

It was "conservative dems" who killed any chance for decent health care in the early 90's, kept demonizing gay people who wanted to serve in the military, blocked Civil Rights for years and years, who voted for bush's war, the Bankruptcy bill, repeal of Estate Tax, etc. etc.

I'd take 100 Olympia Snow's or Jacob Javits' over 1 Zell Miller... You can reason with a "liberal Republican" better than the wheeling/dealing "conservative dems" who helped bring you the Gingrich revolution of '94.

-------------

I will admit that perhaps Ed suckers in some yahoos who think they're listening to Rush and don't realize they're getting a TINY bit of left of center thinking until it's too late. For that purpose, I'm glad he's on Air America.

But I don't have to (nor can I stand to) listen to him any more. His politics and many of his statements are, I believe, counter-productive to Progressive Change. The only thing I've ever heard him say that I agree with are his pro-union stances but that's not enough to counter-balance his other bloviations.

10. Correction: Ed Schultz is not on Air America. He's on some of their
stations because he had a prior contract. That may change with time.

21. He's on the Air America
station here in the S.F. Area.

Sad to say, the local Air America station is a (shudder) ClearChannel outlet. Therefore, the commercials rule and there are LOTS of them...

16. I don't listen to him either
My only point was that I think he is a man of his convictions, however much I might disagree with them.

3. Its taken me a while to get used to him,
and he is not my favorite, but he is tolerable. Occasionally he will say something wacky, but normally he's not too bad. Just wish he wouldn't cut people off to go to commercial. Seems to do that when someone's opinion doesn't agree with his.

sure, I disagree with him a lot. But he represents the way to getting back a lot of those southern Dems we lost during the GOPs Southern Strategy -- get off gun control and get people to vote with their pocket books. He's the exactl sort of Dem. voice that was called for in Foxes in the Henhouse, if you're into political books.

8. You might like to read my OP
Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 03:37 PM by ProudDad
I didn't say turn off YOUR radio, that's your decision.

I did say what I thought about his politics and his slant and what I believe to be his motives, that's my right.

----------------------------

As for your "freeper alert" BS, I've been on the correct (left) side of politics since I resigned from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1964 because I considered the Viet-Nam war immoral and unnecessary. I've walked the walk and talked the talk ever since.

Unlike your buddy Ed, I didn't put my wet finger up in the air to see which way the financial breeze was blowing...today...

13. Wow........
First of all, you are way too angry. Relax. There's no need to cuss and shout.

Second, no one told you what YOU should do. That's up to you.

Third, the OP has a right to his opinion. FWIW so do I, and I agree with him. Ed Schultz just says whatever he thinks his target demographic wants to hear. He's an opportunist, pure and simple. He spotted a niche in radio that he thought he could fill and jumped right in. That niche could just as easily have been "far right-wing bloviating blowhard", but that role is pretty well filled already by one Rush Limbaugh with several wannabe's waiting in the wings.

To be fair, that is what most radio personalities do. It's even what most politicians do. They will blather on endlessly, offering opinions on everything from the latest Israeli offensive to missing blonde girls in Carribean locales, but real conviction isn't there. Trolling for listeners or trolling for votes, it's all the same.

19. Tough choice there
which is what we have on KTLK-LA every afternoon. DLC Eddie pisses me off a lot. And, like Joseph Lieberman, he seems to *enjoy* pissing off liberals a bit too much for my taste.

On the other hand, Randi Rhodes may be a shrieker and screamer on our side, but she's still a shrieker and screamer. I find her hard to take beyond limited doses.

12. And one good reason TO listen to Schultz....
If they dropped him on Sirrius they probably end up with another total waste of space like Alex Bennett. Jesus H. Christ, thats three hours per day that could be put to better use, like more of Thom Hartmann.

I don't agree with everything that big Ed says,I don't agree with everything said on DU either. I'd rather have Schultz than nothing.

Luckily, I get kpfa over the air here in the Bay Area.

15. Why the attempt to shut him down by trying to convince people
he's not worth listening to? People should decide that for themselves and then they are perfectly capable of turning in or not.

Schultz is quite open about stating he is only expressing his opinion and he is paid to do just that. People are entitled to make up their own minds if they disagree or agree. Some here only subscribe to personalities and blogs that follow the narrow confines of their own opinion. That's lazy thinking IMO.

Christ, for all the railing against groupthink, there seems to be quite a bit of that going on here at DU.

20. I think hes a phoney
I gave him many chances, and still even listen to him a little...........very little. Every time I do he's arguing with "lefties" and almost pushing the Rightist party line. I even caught him recently refering to callers as "you liberals" and is was even said in that snarky tone that you hear on fox. I think he forgot his "job" was to be progressive.
