4. Official: Russia, Venezuela seal fighter jet deal
Found this:

MOSCOW - Russia has struck a deal worth more than $1 billion to supply fighter jets and helicopters to Venezuela, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said on Friday.

“The contract was concluded ... for the delivery of 30 Su-30 fighter aircraft and the delivery of the same number of helicopters,” state-owned Rossiya television showed Ivanov saying.

30 SU-30's that haven't likely been delivered yet wouldn't be much of a deterrent though, I guess, anyway.

5. The NeoCons are horny to A) Refight (and win) Vietnam and B)...
...finally break the back of Cuba (among other things). I've been hearing that the NeoCons are teaming up with the extremely strong-willed Cuban Exile community in Florida (a good example of politics making very strange bed-fellows) to invade, revolve or otherwise overthrow Castro.

13. My experience has been the exact opposite.
In fact many of the conservatives I have talked to (on forums) have said that they did not understand the existence restrictions placed on Cuba. Regardless, there are two many other things going on right now. An invasion is just not feasible from a political perspective.

15. A little while ago I said that an attack on Iran was unlikely because of
the action going on in Iraq. There were a number of people who were saying that the conservatives were going to attack Iran soon. This was about half a year ago and despite increased tension between the American and Iran nothing has materialized. The reason why nothing has materialized is political constraints. The constraints on attacking Iran less so then they are for attacking Cuba as an attack on Iran is much easier to justify.

8. Bush is worse than Castro. No Cubans in Cuba died during Katrina.
It seems that Castro cares more about his people than Bush.

10. Katrina only grazed Cuba.
When it did so, it was also much weaker than when it impacted the States.

Cubans would defend against being invaded, down to the last man woman and child. It is their country, not ours.

Bush would have another guerrilla war on his hands.

11. What about Fidel's' WMD?
Do we really know that last Russian nukes ever left the island?
Saddam's bomb was a GOP fraud.
Fidel's bombs were very real, as much so as any left in the Ukraine.
The plan during 1963 was to incinerate invading American conventional forces with a SCUD or FROG strike.
Maybe this is why the Chimp and his GOP predecessors haven't directed much more than bad breath Fidel's way?
Let's see the Kool Aiders argue in favor of Saddam's WMD and against Fidel's.
And even if it isn't so, I think we can depend on savage resistance from the Cubans.

14. This is really weird - you just read my mind.
I was thinking the same thing - Bush will invade Cuba.
It would be an easy country to invade.
They would greet us with flowers and open arms.
And PNAC enthusiasts would simply love it - finally, a war we can win!
And on top of all that, it's in our own backyard.
Plus, we would actually be fighting against our old foes, the commies!

I'm surprised that Billy Kristol didn't already suggest this to Bush via his hotline PNAC phone.

16. JFK signed a treaty that was ratified by the Senate never to
invade Cuba. That is why the neocons never mention this, almost impossible to get around.

Treaties have the same weight as the constitution. Why don't they teach this in school anymore, especially at the college level.

but the constitution means little to Bush, so I wouldn't put it past them.
