College Democrats of America Elect New Executive Board Members
Washington, DC - This past weekend, during the third and final day of the College Democrats of America Convention on the campus of Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, the delegates in attendance elected new officers and executive board members. In conjunction with Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean's 50 State Strategy, this was the first CDA convention held outside of Washington, DC, in a mid-term election year. The elections were among the highlights of a successful convention which featured several prominent speakers, intense trainings and a candidate canvass.
The election was highly competitive and was the result of a long and hard fought campaign by all the candidates. Lauren Wolfe, a student of the University of Detroit Mercy Law School, was elected President and Awais Khaleel a student of the University of Wisconsin, was elected Vice President. The election of Khaleel made him the first Indian Muslim American to be elected as Vice President of CDA.
The CDA election also marked the end of former CDA President Grant Woodard's successful term. Woodard, first elected CDA president in 2004, served two consecutive terms as President.
Under the umbrella of the Democratic National Committee, College Democrats of America are working hard to gear up for the upcoming mid-term elections and are committed to bringing about a new direction for America using America's youth and their commitment to the political process.
