Nebraska Governor hides from Democratic candidate, details
Edited on Fri Jul-21-06 08:16 PM by Omaha Steve

Hahn Camp calls Heineman’s press release False, Misleading

Dear Friends and Supporters,

After trying for weeks to meet with Dave Heineman's campaign and set a reasonable schedule for debates, the governor's election campaign is playing cheap politics once again.

Yesterday, Heineman's campaign released a statement saying they'd reached an agreement to three debates. But the funny thing is, they never said exactly who they reached that agreement with, because it sure wasn't me or anyone who works on my campaign.

From the beginning I have been calling for multiple debates in the state—and especially multiple debates in our third congressional district. And yet Dave Heineman thinks that the biggest district in the state deserves only one single debate—in McCook—with only one local newspaper and radio station covering it.

Democracy is only successful with the direct involvement of the people because it is the people themselves who govern when they elect leaders. Dave Heineman is thumbing his nose at every Nebraskan by denying the majority of third district voters the opportunity to participate or even watch or hear these debates.

We need to get Nebraskans—especially those in the third district—asking why Dave Heineman doesn't want the third district to have a fair share in our democracy. As candidates I know it's our duty to help bring this great process to as many people as possible but Dave Heineman just doesn't care about the third district.

Below I've included a link to the first press release from Heineman's campaign, followed by our campaign's response. In the meantime I plan on continuing to work out more debates for Nebraska's third district so that everyone has a chance to witness the debates either in person, online, on TV or on the radio. If Dave Heineman thinks he deserves to be elected governor, he better prove it to the whole state—including the third district.

Thank you for you support,

David Hahn
Candidate For Governor

1. He has no reason to debate Hahn
Hahn's in no position to make demands. He trails 3 to 1, and NDP is uncompetitive.
When the Nebraska Democrats get serious about winning instead of being the GOP J.V. squad, then you can gripe.

2. Well, that's certainly reason enough not to debate
After all, politics is all about winning and losing, and the issues can just go piss up a rope. No sense in having an open and fair discussion, particularly when one candidate is up 3-1. Just coast, and let the GOP inertia carry Heineman along.

3. There's a great big difference between the democratic party and
what passes for the same in this goofy state. It's run so half-assed and the best it can do is dig up people like Ben Nelson, a guy who calles himself a democrat but votes with the bush** administration almost consistently.

I always wonder what it would be like if the dems really stood up for themselves and started acting like dems. But believe me, I understand that that is something we well never know or experience in the state of Nebraska.
