If We Had a President.
If we had a president, he'd chew with his mouth closed.

He'd know how to keep his hands to himself.

And he'd pick up the damn phone himself, and talk to anyone he needed to in order to be the Leader of the Free World, and stop the killing. The killing of Lebanese and Israeli people.

They don't want to die, or see their children or parents or neighbors die, no matter what side of the border they live on.

Of course they want and need to defend themselves.

But the violence we're seeing is exactly the kind of crisis that demands leadership. Some honest believer in the possibility of finding a solution, even when it seems impossible.

The Leader of the Free World would privately flex all his muscles and use all his resources to make it known to each side: Stop. And he would raise his hands and say: Cease fire. We are giving our full attention to finding a process that works here, and in the meantime, the shooting must stop.

The Leader of the Free World would lead.

If we had a president.

1. Too bad we don't.
This guy's mommy won't let him pick up the phone. He'd just stand there staring at the receiver, the way toddlers do when they first encounter a ringing phone and race to pick it up before anyone else, just because that's what they've seen people do...and not have a clue what to do next.

He doesn't know how to lead. All his time in office he's been surrounded by people who do the leading for him.

Right now, he's probably looking all around him for that book about the pet goat, so he can reread it. It was pretty good right there up to the point where he was so rudely interrupted while reading it the first time. I'll bet he's dying to read it again.

3. If we had a President
He/She would not say "Russia is big."

He/She would do what ever it takes before, during, and after a "Katrina."

He/She would not allow Exxon to spend millions to make more billions to
say global warming is not real.

and bin Laden and all his backers would be dead or in jail and that includes Saudi Royalty.

7. But peace and prosperity are sooooooo last decade
The roaring 90's were getting so boring. Blessed are the peacemakers, for corrupt neo-con fascists will take over the earth.

:sarcasm:

These things come in cycles, so the near future better be pretty damn liberal.

15. I think your wrong about people not wanting the violence. Hate,
it seems, is stronger then the will for life. Many people's actions and world show that they genuinely care more about revenge then a solution.

I think it would be foolish to expect an American president to be able to fix such a problem by "flexing all his muscles". The anger and hate will remain making a solution difficult, even for a good leader.
