Edwards and Spratt call on DCCC to pull down web video
Democratic Reps. Chet Edwards (Texas) and John Spratt (S.C.) have called on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to pull down a controversial web video that uses images of flag-draped coffins and a grave of a fallen soldier.

The two Democrats sent letters to DCCC Chairman Rahm Emanuel (Illinois) asking him to remove the video, "America Needs a New Direction,"from its website after Republicans accused Democrats of trying to gain politically from the pictures. Emanuel urged political supporters in a fundraising e-mail sent Tuesday to view the video on the DCCC's website.

"I would not have included the clip showing the flag-draped caskets or the clip showing a soldier standing at the grave of a fallen comrade," Spratt wrote Thursday in his letter to Emanuel. "I strongly recommend that you pull this ad and delete both of these clips before running it again."

(snip)
A DCCC spokesman told the Grind this morning they had no comment on the letters. But House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-California) defended the video yesterday and pointed out that President Bush's top political adviser Karl Rove has spoken about how the GOP needs to capitalize politically on the war.

16. Well, if he stands against Spratt and Edwards, he'd redeem himself.
Let's see just how this plays out.

If Mr. Emanuel refuses those two Southern "Democrats", then he'll redeem himself.

As of yet, we don't know, do we?

Let's hope he proves some DUers wrong, and stand strong in principle that Democrats have as much right to show the flag-draped coffins of troops of the Iraq war, as the Republicans believe they have the (sole?) right to exploit emotions of the Twin Towers, and--yesseree!--Flag-draped coffins.

If Mr. Emanuel folds, he'll only prove some DUers right: that he's a DINO.

3. Democrats should strike back hard....
and scream to the rafters that the Repugs don't want the american people to know the truth. That they want to sugar-coat the truth about our brave soldiers dying for a lie. Don't keep silent, it infers that their lies are true.

4. WHY??? Pugs didn't care when they showed a flag draped
body being removed from the WTC! THAT was OK because it promoted the anger and fear that fueled support for THEIR war! Of course the Pubs are now bi*ching about the Dems showing the flag draped coffins of our soldiers because THAT reminds the people that Americans are DYING because of Shrub's WAR!

BS! I say run the add!

6. "Rahm Emanuel is a mean son of a bitch."
Quote from someone I know who knows him.

Rahm, good job, buddy. Don't just stab the fuckers, twist the knife, too.

17. Good! I'd rather have a German Shepherd than a Labrador guard...
...my home, and lead our party since far too often the Democrats have proven to have the Labrador's famous "friend to all" attitude against Republicans' "friend to no one insignificant" attitude.

7. With well less than half the effort these 2 grandstanders could have
Edited on Fri Jul-14-06 11:05 AM by Old Crusoe
called a press conference in the home town of one of the fallen soldiers and asked respectfully that their townspeople honor the sacrifice and hold in their hands the combined sum of those soldiers' lives.

Their school days. The Sunday afternoons when their grandparents looked at them in awe and deep love and immeasurable affection. Their junior high days when they began to understand better how the world around them seems to work, that actions have consequences, that family and community are the arenas in which they will grow, be considered, and function for better and worse.

Their high school Friday nights as participants in the larger world of young adulthood, their first intimate conversations, their early days of trusting others, seeing others as others see them, and their teachers' gifts to them of knowledge and inspiration.

Their dedication to their goals, their brave decision to volunteer in the service, the legend of service young people have left us all in this country from the Revolution centuries back to any war you can name.

And their loss. The loss to their families, to their friends, neighbors, their 3rd grade teachers, their lovers, their pals on a baseball squad, perhaps a grieving grandparent across town or out in the soybean or wheat fields where the roads are named in numbers.

Under those flags are real Americans and they deserve to be shown on national television and put before our national attention.

Shame on Chet Edwards and John Spratt. Shame on these Congressmen for what they are doing.

Shame on them.

8. "If we're spineless and uncritical --- well we'll surely WIN!"
The Dems can't win specifically because they CAN'T stand up strongly and present a real alternative! And then these jokers come on and appease the far right wing...

9. Keep the ad running. Republicans have caused much death
and yes it includes 9/11/2001 which George W Bush provoked with his hard bargained oil pipeline negotiations with the Taliban terrorists that he provoked into attacking us.

Then the Republiklan party appears responsible for over 30,000 innocent Iraqi people dying in an unnecessary invasion when continued containment could have held Iraq in check.

Then the Republiklan party appears resposible for over 2,500 US soldiers dying and over 10,000 US soldiers getting seriously injured.

I say keep up the harsh criticism of the REPUBLIKLAN Party.

"Where Republicans tread, innocent people end up dead"

If that video stays up, I'll send them some money. I swore I'd only contribute to candidates I know support the issues I believe in, but if they're going to grow a backbone, I want to reward them.

14. Edwards and Spratt can kiss my arse
I am so sick and tired of The Party of Whimps. I like the DCCC ad, because by showing the coffins, it shows the true cost of the "war on terra". The message Edwards and Spratt are sending is a bad one, and I absolutely reject it. Being "nice" hasn't gotten us anywhere. It's far past time to fight back, and fight back hard.

15. Why do they hate the Democratic Party?
Honestly, if they can't see past all the fake Republican outrage and classic Karl Rove tactics, what the hell are they doing in Congress?

And why would they join the GOP in attacking their own DCCC? It's f'n ridiculous.

18. Shut the fu(k up!
So were just going to let them capitalize politically on the war and just say that's mean? I'm sick of saying that's mean. We have to do what is necessary to gain power and if that's having to fight fire with fire I say go right ahead.
