My dream politcal/current events/discussion show
It would be a show called "I Think". The guests could come from any part of the political spectrum and they would discuss issues of the day. The host could be anyone (Bill MOyers would be my choice). The ONLY rules for the show are that the guests talk ONLY about their own personal opinion about some issue or question. They would be forbidden from saying "Liberals think this" or "Conservatives think that". They could ONLY offer their own opinion and how they came to that conclusion. So, they could quote the works and opinions of others if those works or opinions help them derive their own beliefs.

What do you think? Somehow, we as a country have to find a way to talk to one another again about real issues that effect all of us. I think we have such a schism in the country because polarizing figures like Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh WANT to demonize. We probably do our own share of demonizing too, but, of course, it's far more well thought out and valid.

Can we ever get to the point where we talk to each other and not over each other?

1. I totally agree that we have to transcend the dualistic

divide to arrive at a place where we realize that there is more that unites us than divides us. The label of libralism has been unjustifiably demonized. The label of conservatism hardly applies to these bozo "loot and waste" neocons.

Beyond socialism, fascism, libralism, or conservatism, I humbly think progressive humanism in defense of the constitution is truly the only way to go.

This land once known as the land of the lively discussion had digressed into dualistic shouting matches and it's enough to make my head want to explode. Truly.

2. That sounds like a good idea
But whether there is the will to do such a ting is the question.
Ususaly when one side ot the other has all the power they are not interisted in debate.

3. I Think
it is a great idea! I just don't know if you could get certain conservative talking heads to abide by the rules. (I'm visualizing them sitting on the hinged seat of one of those tanks they have at fairs where if you hit the target, the seated person is plunged into water. Only in this case, the one not following the rules gets soaked. Sure, it's silly, and I don't mean to detract from your idea at all-just something that popped into my mind I wanted to share.)
