Dems need to round out their message. We focus incessantly on issues like the war, the deficit, the economy, healthcare. Fine. But don't forget to also focus on "unimportant" issues and "intractable" issues that the government and human beings can do nothing about. We need the trivial and intractable to round out our offering. And yes, I'm unfortunately serious. The Dems have an irrationality gap.
We Dems have nothing to counter-balance trivia like gay marriage and flag burning. Our issues are always important. We have nothing to weigh against Star Wars and a U.S. aligned Democracy in Iraq, for example. Our issues are always plausible, honest, and obey the second law of thermodynamics.
Unless we come up with some bullshit ideas of our own, voters will prioritize issues like gay marriage along side issues like stem cell research. I'm not suggesting that we abandon the real issues (we are not Republicans). I'm suggesting we come up with some bullshit of our own.
