Bush: Leaks good for me, but not for thee
No matter how many times something like this happens, it's important to remember the facts.

Spin:
President Bush criticized newspapers on Monday for disclosing a secret U.S. government program monitoring international banking transactions, calling the disclosures a "disgraceful" act that could assist terrorists.

(snip)

"The disclosure of this program is disgraceful," he said. "We're at war with a bunch of people who want to hurt the United States of America, and for people to leak that program, and for a newspaper to publish it does great harm to the United States of America."
Reality:
The unmasking of covert CIA officer Valerie Plame Wilson by White House officials in 2003 caused significant damage to U.S. national security and its ability to counter nuclear proliferation abroad, RAW STORY has learned.

According to current and former intelligence officials, Plame Wilson, who worked on the clandestine side of the CIA in the Directorate of Operations as a non-official cover (NOC) officer, was part of an operation tracking distribution and acquisition of weapons of mass destruction technology to and from Iran.

Speaking under strict confidentiality, intelligence officials revealed heretofore unreported elements of Plame's work. Their accounts suggest that Plame's outing was more serious than has previously been reported and carries grave implications for U.S. national security and its ability to monitor Iran's burgeoning nuclear program.

2. Oh no doubt
And we hear this despite the fact the president still employs Karl Rove, a walking national security threat.

4. This itself is a Rove tactic - that is surprising effective since the
press never challenges it. When you, yourself have a weakness or have done something wrong - immediately criticize your opponent for the same thing - whether true or not. Whether or not your opponent's sin is infinitesimal compared to yours.

This is a brilliant strategy in today's world. No one questions what you say. There is no debate. No accountability. You can get away with it.
