Some returning troops echo frustration of war critic Rep. Murtha
KIMBERLY HEFLING
Associated Press

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - While Staff Sgt. Randy Myers was dodging roadside bombs
in Iraq, his congressman was calling the war a lost cause.

Sixteen-term Rep. John Murtha, a decorated Vietnam veteran and military hawk,
has become the face of the Democrats' anti-war movement since he called for the
withdrawal of U.S. troops last fall. His oft-repeated criticism of the Bush
administration's war policies also has earned him the wrath of Republicans.

In Murtha's southwest Pennsylvania district, however, many share the war
critic's views.

At a welcome home ceremony this week for Myers and other troops from the Johnstown,
Pa.-based 876th Engineer Battalion, the crowd cheered when a Murtha aide welcomed
the troops on the congressman's behalf.

Myers said he backs Murtha, an opinion echoed by a number of other troops and their
families. Several share his frustration with the conflict.

2. Your link doesn't seem to be working.
But I do find the headline and opening statement misleading (what I could read of it)

"Myers said he backs Murtha, an opinion echoed by a number of other troops and their families. Several share his frustration with the conflict."

Seems the writer is the only one not supporting Murtha.

3. I misunderstood the AP headline also.
I thought returning troops were frustrated "with" Murtha. Glad to see that they understand that he's on their side.

5. Oh, that's easy to explain. you see the writer is writing news in Amerika
In that country writers can't offer news, like they do here in the USSR, they're only allowed to write pro-government talking points. Over there the secret police can kick your door down in the middle of the night without warrants and spirit you away to a secret detention camp with no legitimate accusations or trial. We're very fortunate, here in Russia, to have rights and freedom. We should all exercise our right to vote next November to preserve our liberty.
