Author says Bush purposely bombed Al Jazeera
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/06/20.html#a8796

Video clips are up. It's the author of the One Percent Solution -- the same one book being touted to show how we stopped a gas attack against NYC or something like that.

Hmm...

3. Bush bombed Al-Jazeera and the Red Cross in Kabul
and he bombed Al-Jazeera in Baghdad. Both incidents were widely discussed in DU at the time.

16. We relied on the British press, before Blair de-fanged it
and on correspondents on the ground in Afghanistan that showed the many civilians killed by US bombings, including women and babies. People like CNN's Brent Sadler who, after broadcasting from a village in which dead bodies of children were being pulled from the rubble, was unceremoniously recalled back to Atlanta by paranoid CNN executives. Peter Arnett, who was banished to Britain for daring to tell the truth. We also had the good fortune of having The Independent's Robert Fisk, the premier British correspondent on the Middle East. While the American media was trumpeting Bush as the "warrior king" Fisk and others were exposing him as the fraud that he was, and the war as the carnage that we now know it was.

But too many Americans would reflexively say "they had it coming".

19. He means "Freedom to buy American goods", and "American"
means "whatever we obtain by breaking and grabbing in other sovereign nations".

4. This should be on the front page of every newspaper in America
For the first time in history an American President decided to deliberately KILL the Free Press to cover up what he was doing.

5. Democracy Now! in Doha…"Why Did You Want to Bomb Me Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair
Friday, February 3rd, 2006
Democracy Now! in Doha…"Why Did You Want to Bomb Me Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair?": Al Jazeera Director Demands More Information on Secret Memo

WADAH KHANFAR: At this point, actually, we still, supposedly, we have to receive official response from 10 Downing Street, after we have submitted application according to the Freedom of Information Act. However, those who have read the memo confirmed to us that the memo is real. There are ten statements. Ten in that memo speak about Al Jazeera, in particular, and mention that Mr. Tony Blair and George Bush had a discussion about Al Jazeera and the issue of bombing Al Jazeera. We did ask both governments, actually, to give us, you know, a straightforward explanation of what has happened, to confirm or at least to give us the context of that discussion. However, we received many statements, but none of them definitely gave us a certain answer.

So, therefore this kind of atmosphere that has been created around this memo already, you know, was received, is still received by the Arab world and by our organs as another incident, another example of the relationship between the West, unfortunately, and the Arab world. This Al Jazeera has been celebrated by the American administration as the voice for freedom and democracy up to 2001, and after 2001, two of our bureaus were bombed, one in Baghdad and one in Kabul, and then this memo came, to speak about something much more dangerous, which is bombing even the headquarters.

7. That's What the Criminals Do
They have no scruples, no remorse, no line they will not cross. Bush would bomb his mother if he thought it would be a fair trade--I don't know why Condi thinks she's safe, and I'm glad that Laura is coming out of her coma, for whatever reason.

It is not possible to overstate the evil that has gripped our government. There is no reason not to jail the whole lot of BushCo appointees: they are guilty by collusion, not just by association. The bodies and the evidence isn't even 6 inches under, let alone 6 feet!

9. Bomb Al Jazeera? Oh, no. We were only joking.
Just goofin', you see. Then the British government slapped The Daily Mirror with the Official Secrets Act, prohibiting them from discussing the memo any further.

From an essay I had written last December:

“…It may be more advantageous at times for the purposes of terrorism from above to reduce media exposure of repressive violence. In the case of the serious state-sponsored violations of human rights, such as torture, arbitrary arrests, and detentions, the state may well use all of its powers to prevent the dissemination of such news” (Bassiouni, 1981, p. 15).

Recently, Britain invoked the Official Secrets Act against the Daily Mirror, prohibiting them from releasing any information pertaining to President George W. Bush’s meeting with Prime Minister Tony Blair, where Bush allegedly discussed bombing Arab broadcaster Al-Jazeera (Reuters, 2005)

This book seems to be riddled with smoking guns.

27. I believe he bombed 3 media outlets in Baghdad that day.
Edited on Thu Jun-22-06 04:55 AM by w4rma
I can't remember when he fired the tank shell through the hotel where the press was staying.

I think one of the other outlets was a small independant TV station.
