Because Jerome Corsi is a Liar, Here is a More Reputable Source on NAFTA
I have seen a couple threads on DU now about Jerome Corsi's new writings dealing with Chapter 11 of NAFTA. Now as most DUers know Jerome Corsi is a liar, and so the threads dealing with this story have turned into a debate over his credibility. That is perfectly understandable when a story is posted by someone everyone here knows is a liar.

Yet while Corsi is a liar, the facts he presents in his recent articles on NAFTA do represent a frightening truth. So rather than talking about Corsi any more we should look at a source I think most DUers have far more respect for: Bill Moyers.

A few years back Bill Moyers ran a special on Chapter 11 of NAFTA called "Trading Democracy". It makes many of the same claims that Corsi made more recently, that secret NAFTA tribunals have given corporations the government to secretly sue the government for billions of dollars simply for putting regulations in place that threaten the companies profits. These secret NAFTA tribunals even have the power to overrule the Supreme Court.

Why Corsi is getting so much attention, when Moyers reported much of the same information three years ago is beyond me but Chapter 11 of NAFTA is a very serious threat to our democracy and it deserves our attention.

Here is the link to the transcript of the Moyers special http://www.pbs.org/now/transcript/transcript_tdfull.html

If anyone can find access to a video I highly recommend watching it, it is one of the best and most frightening documentaries I have seen and I am a big documentary fan.

1. I don't know how NAFTA made it through a Democratic Congress
It should've died long before it got to the floor for a vote. Then again, I guess we have more than a few pro-corporate Democrats in the party.

2. Whew!
At first I thought about answering your question regarding how NAFTA made it past the Dems. Thankfully I was spared a rant when you answered your own question. IIRC, we controlled congress at the time. A few? Now we've got them building the NAFTA corridor which will bypass the union workers at America's docks, and union drivers of American trucks.

Look, I vote for Democrats...I mean what else have I got? But being an ordinary citizen doesn't have to mean I'm stupid. The Moyers' piece was excellent.
