Iraq can be characterized as an occupation, an act of aggression, a bald faced oil grab, a police action, an exercize in nation building, even, if one stretches the limits of credulity, a humanitarian intervention. But what it is NOT, is a war.

Sure, we're blowing shit up and our shit is getting blown up. Sure, our guys are killing and being killed. It looks like a war. But it isn't. How will we know when its over? Who will sign the surrender papers? With whom do we negotiate a disarmament? Who, exactly, are we fighting over there instead of over here?

The Global War on Terror exists only in the fertile mind of the bushista media crowd. Sheer genius if measured as a marketing campaign, it has no defined enemy, no defined battlefield, no defined leader, no defined measure of victory. At best, it is a game of Whack-A-Mole and at worst it is ..... a game of Whack-A-Mole.

I am as guilty as any one, but each time we use these terms we strengthen the Republicans.
