Hatemail from my website. (good grief).
I certainly am not threatened by this message, I find it simply a nice summary of the opinions of Bush's base (the 15% club).

" Boy i don't know where to start. Hmm.... Mabey ill start with, well i hate to put it in the only words u understand which are you are one twisted fucking person who is totally fucking stupid well boy ill tell u what you need to fuckin die and guess what else i think (well i know) that all and probably most all the soldiers in the United States Army would be ashamed of your fucking sight. they are over there dieing to keep little fucking peices of dirt like u safe from fucking terroist. you know what i think you should have to go fight for this country and see what it is like when there are people back in the US that dont give a shit if they are free. it is because of freedom and our troops that you can have this site and talk about your government like that and yes you do have the right to have this site but you should be a fucking shame of your self. and if i find you on the street i will kill you not because you dislike bush but because you are showing the troops in iraq that you do not appriciate what they are doing and you are showing what they are doing is for nothing and it is for something it is for your fucking freedom. I am only 15 years old and i am going into the army when i turn 18 and i will die for my country so that americans can be free. i hope you take this letter into considerition and hope you take it to the grave with you when i kill you so have a nice fucking death fucker"

All this anger about my little myspace web page? Well I'm glad this is the first and only hate mail I've gotten. Everyone really really enjoys my page. I've even had my music played on college radio.

Anyways I was wondering what to do. Should I just ignore? What would my fellow DUer do if they received a mail like this. He did threaten my life, however I think it's all talk.

2. Take death threats seriously
A copy of his email plus your complaint should go to his ISP, the address is usually abuse@hisisp.com.

A printed copy should go to the cops.

Get that paper trail going. He's probably like a zillion other Freeptard gasbags out there, all talk and pure mush in person. However, you never know when one of these lunatics will do something, usually to his family or coworkers, and a paper trail will help the cops nail it down.

3. That's a death threat
and you should turn it over to the authorities. This kid says he's going to enlist, but we don't need his kind in the military. His type of people are the ones in the military who massacre civilians and torture prisoners.

Tell his mommy. Though, that kind of brainwashing can only be done by mom and dad.

Maybe he's watching too many rambo movies. Or whatever it is that kids are watching these days. 24? The Unit? Alias? all propaganda I avoid.

OK, all kidding aside. He's too imature to know what he's talking about. Things were pretty black and white at 15, if I can remember back that far. And if he doesn't mature out of it, I'm sure there will be a war he can fight in when he's 18.

It would be kind of fun to check back with him in a few years and see if he's matured or if he's become one of the firmly entrenched backwash.

At that age, it can go either way.

5. It is stupid but I don't think you should ignore it....
I can't remember what the law that was passed but people must leave their names when they post certain things....(my fellow Friends please correct or clarify this for us)

I consider it threatening and this 15 year old obviously hasn't paid enough attention the the "writing" part of school (I digress) anyway I would file a complaint.

When the kids and adults from the neocon ilk do this and when they get away with it they will continue to do it and it will escalate in their rhetoric and eventually violence.....No he should be held accountable for his actions even if it is a reprimand, until we start holding them accountable this kind of behavior will continue...they want you to be afraid and intimidated and to stop what you are doing.

What state do you live in and what is the law for "threats of violence"?

It sounds like your page is pretty cool!!

9. Thanks, feel free to check out my page!
http://www.myspace.com/dumbosaurus

I have spent the last 3 weeks moving, because I bought my first house. Once the move is done I can keep it updated again. I certainly want to adress what happened in the House this week on my site.

Anyways I live in Minnesota, I'll have to search for info on the law for threats of violence.

It seems the Republicans in the House are almost at the same mentality of this person who e-mailed me.

7. It is a Death Threat
and, speaking from experience (unfortunately), these do need to be taken seriously from the get-go. Report it to MySpace and the appropriate authorities. This 15 year old needs to learn that there are consequences for threatening the life of another, even if that person disagrees with you. (sheesh!) Never assume that someone doesn't actually mean what they say/write. I made that mistake and it took me what felt like years to clean up the mess and put the man behind bars. Feeling safe again will take a bit longer, though.

Just my two cents.

11. As the others say, it's a death threat, so inform the authorities...
Since he's 15 and obviously... let's say "slow," I doubt there's any actual intent behind the death threat, but it's a death threat nonetheless. It's probably nothing more than the electronic equivalent of some drunk asshole in a bar saying, "I'm going to kick your ass," before pissing his pants.

I guess the real point is that there's no negative to reporting it to the authorities: if he's just a 15-year-old shithead (99.9% likely the case), maybe a call from his local police will make him realize he can't go around saying "I'm going to kill you," without attracting the attention of the police; if he's serious, then the police really need to be involved.

As the others recommend, forward the message to his ISP and to his local police, if he happened to give his name and city (sometimes they really are that stupid) If not, send it to your own police, as they could then probably find out who he is and get in touch with his local police.

16. Take death threats seriously. And exercise creative follow-up...
Edited on Sun Jun-18-06 07:22 PM by IanDB1
Look at his MySpace page for clues, and find out:

1) Where does he go to school? Send a copy of his page to the school guidance counselors in his district, so he can get help.

2) Find out what departments in the Armed Forces psychologically evaluate the mental fitness of applicants and draftees. Send copies to them, to help evaluate if he is mentally fit for service.

3) Forward copies to his local police.

4) Does he mention what religious denomination he is? He might be in need of pastoral counseling. Forward copies to the clergy of every house of worship that belongs to his denomination near his home.

5) Save your own copies of his page, on paper and on your hard drive.

At his young age, an early intervention is important.

Imagine if Jacob Robida had gotten that kind of help.

I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, nor did I sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

22. As the parent of a 15 year old and 13 year old - I agree with IanDB1!
Most likely this kid is just talking big (and probably intoxicated while posting). Some peoplr aren't mature enough to realize that what they say on the internet actually matters - that real human beings are on the receiving end. They can get reality confused with their video games.

Nonetheless, it's not a good idea to just let this go. If you have the time and energy to pursue it, you will be doing several good deeds. As others here have said, the kid (who might not really be a kid) could be getting ready to explode, and your intervention could help prevent a violent act. And even if it really is a kid talking stupid on the internet, it would be doing them and others in the world a favor to help teach them an important lesson about netiquet.

17. Here's what myspacew says about it....
No link is given for who "law enforcement" would be.

"Q. Someone on MySpace is bugging/harrassing/threatening me - what can I do about it?
A. The best thing to do if and when you encounter such a situation is simply ignore them... 99.9% of the time they will soon leave you alone. Remember, you can always remove the person from your Friend List (they will then no longer be able to add Comments to your Profile page), delete any Comments they leave on your Profile page, and you can even delete any messages they send you via the MySpace Mail system without opening them. By NOT responding to offending user (i.e., NOT giving them any attention, NOT letting them get a "rise" out of you), most people will simply go away.

You may also view their profile and click "Block User", which will prevent them from contacting you. Annoying people get bored very fast when you don't allow them to annoy you. If someone threatens you, contact law enforcement immediately."

30. Wow, Myspace takes no responsibility for monitoring its site
Who owns Myspace - some media corporation, can't remember which. If there's no way to report it on Myscape, report it to corporate headquarters and complain that they need to have a way to report incidents like this and take some responsibility for their website. Myspace is going to have a limited shelf life if this is how they are (not) doing business.

my heavens, using the English equivalent of the Dutch "fokken" is a bit overused. And apparently wherever he lives, they don't believe in apostrophes and proper capitalization. All that being said, he did threaten your life. If there is someone to alert, I would do so-and not necessarily just for your sake, but also for his. If he gets in the habit of threatening people, there will come a day and time when someone will react, and he could be seriously hurt. I think it will be interesting if he does, indeed, go into the military and wind up in Iraq. If he survives, it will be instructive to see how his opinions change.

Doesn't he know that Cheney and Bush have said that there was NO connection between al qeada/911 and Sadam - AND that they (Cheney and Bush) have "no idea" why so much of the public believes there is a link? Ask him if he got the idea from Bush or Cheney - or talk radio or Fox news - and ask them if he minds that he is being made out to look like a Rube/ignoramous by Bush and Cheney when they claim that they don't know why so much of the public believes in a link between al qeada and Saddam that Bush and Cheney claim to have never made (as in, I dunno why folks think that, they are stupid, I guess...)

I'd report him to myspace, never reply directly, don't directly address any responses to him. Ignore him entirely and report him to myspace. Maybe also file a police report to record it. If his threats continue, report him to the FBI (your local field office from the Yellow Pages).
