Lieberman-Lamont debate set for next month.
It looks like Connecticut has got a debate coming between Joe Lieberman and Ned Lamont. I wonder if Lieberman will roll over in this one like he did with Dick Cheney?

Does anybody know if this debate will be on CSPAN? I want to see this.

John

P.S.- Apologies if somebody else already posted this.

1. Lieberman can just say that he has the support of nearly every Democratic
officeholder in congress. Sadly, he does.

2. Before or after the time-line by which Lieberman would have to declare
that he were running as an independent in order to collect the 7,500 or so signatures that he would need (that have to be filed the day after the primary) to run as an independent - something that he continues to say that he 'won't close the door' upon doing?

3. It would be really ironic if Bush support drove him from his Senate seat.
I know he was a terrible choice for VP when he announced he was simultaneously announced he was running for VP and re-election. This was tentative when a VP candidate should be agressive.

I love Al Gore, but Lieberman was the biggest mistake of the 2000 campaign.

Anyway, it would be great if Lieberman's weak kneed approach to Bush actually cost him his precious Senate seat. So long as it doesn't go to a Repuke, it's fine with me.

I'm guessing that Lieberman as an independent won't split the Dem vote. More likely it will split the Repuke vote.

4. I agree.
Al Gore had a wide choice of people he could have taken on as VP. My choice would have been John Kerry as a running mate. I think Lieberman was awful during that debate with Dead Eye Dick Cheney. I even thought I saw some brown on Holy Joe's nose.

7. Spot On!!
Lieberman WAS the biggest mistake in 2000. Gore was so strong, and Lieberman was so weak. Even their voices reflected that. I can't stand that nasaly whiney voice. Sounds so weak.

8. That voice makes me cringe!
It's like a cross between Ben Stein "Buuueller?" and the guy who played the Dad on "Alf".

6. My guess is that he will be far more aggressive with Lamont
than he was with Cheney. It just seems like this race is far more high stakes for him than the 2000 presidential race was.

I'm still trying to make any kind of sense out of his attitude.

10. Perhaps Karl Rove will give Holy Joe a few pointers
no favor is too big for Bush's favorite Democrat.

11. He's been very useful to them.
He removed a big thorn from their side by defeating Lowell Weicker, and he's been essentially playing the role of mole for them in the Democratic party since then.

I don't expect them to display any gratitude though. That's just not their way. They will happily discard him, having used him all these years. I hope he can handle the betrayal.

I really don't know what he's worried about though. He has a great career as a lobbyist ahead of him.

12. The real question is can Lieberman control his temper?
So far he's displayed the petulance of a spoiled child. He did it to Colin McEnroe on McEnroe's show in March and his actions and words since that verbal tempest haven't gotten any better.

I predict that Lieberman will attack Lamont similar to the way he attacked Howard Dean. Don't be surprised if Lieberman says Lamont, who supported Dean in 2004, is in a spider-hole of denial about Iraq and the Middle East.

Lieberman is more narcissistic now than he was when he first got elected.
