BCCI... Follow the Money (Senator Kerry)
Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 01:52 AM by Rainscents
When the DU want to counter Anti-Kerry activist or the new comers on DU (and I bet, lot of the new comers never even heard of BCCI), so please post the link of BCCI and How John Kerry busted the terrorists' favorite bank (Bush families was involved). I get tired of Kerry bashing since he really is one of very few good democrats we have right now.

Two decades ago, the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) was a highly respected financial titan. In 1987, when its subsidiary helped finance a deal involving Texas oilman George W. Bush, the bank appeared to be a reputable institution, with attractive branch offices, a traveler's check business, and a solid reputation for financing international trade. It had high-powered allies in Washington and boasted relationships with respected figures around the world.

All that changed in early 1988, when John Kerry, then a young senator from Massachusetts, decided to probe the finances of Latin American drug cartels. Over the next three years, Kerry fought against intense opposition from vested interests at home and abroad, from senior members of his own party; and from the Reagan and Bush administrations, none of whom were eager to see him succeed. 3. I wanted to put this out there again since so many people don't know about
it. Kerry's work in Senate has been mostly investigating criminals, since he was prosecuting officer before he was elected as a Senate.

4. Good post - thanks
Also, I am no senate historian, but I got from the Frontline special that the power structure in DC wanted to marginalize Kerry after he and Harkin met with Ortega, then Ortega turned around and made a deal with Khrushchev. On top of that, being junior senator to Kennedy probably limited Kerry's ability to put his names on the bills that would move. So the investigative aspect was the best opportunity for him to make a mark. And make a mark he did.
