The excuse given by Lieberman and his campaign for not saying they will support Lamont should he win the primary is that he supposedly acted like a Republican when he was in office. Now we hear as justification for supporting a potential independent candidacy by Lieberman that only he can get Republican and Independent votes in Connecticut. Which is it? Is Lamont too Republican to merit support or not Republican enough to merit support? Lieberman has earned this primary challenge and if he loses he should, like we expect Lamont to, support the winner of the Democratic primary. If you, like I have repeatedly, tell potential third party voters that they should support liberal candidates in primaries you can't turn around and say it is perfectly OK for moderate ones to run third party bids when they lose. If Lieberman loses he should behave like Dixon did anything else is unDemocratic and undemocratic.
