Charles Schumer, check your ego at the door
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 04:52 PM by derby378
Are you serious, Senator? Have you gone insane?

Looky what I found, thanks to another DUer:

Schumer said the Dem primary voters want winners and are focused one electability. He couldn't resist adding even "in 2008," which pricked the ears of reporters who thought he was sending a message about the relative electability of Hillary Clinton. (He wasn't, apparently.)

Schumer said that the DSCC "fully supports" Sen. Joe Lieberman in his primary bid, and he refused to rule out continuing that support if Lieberman were to run as an independent.

There were degrees of independence, Schumer said. "You can run as an independent, you can run as an independent Democrat who pledges to vote for Harry Reid as Majority Leader."

Schumer said he had neither sought nor recieved assurances from Lieberman that an independent bid would not ensue if Ned Lamont tightened the noose.

They're called primaries, Chuckie baby. And all across America, Democratic candidates for public office are being selected in those primaries. Some of those Democrats enjoy less than overwhelming support from their constituents, but the local Democrats are swallowing their pride and pledging to work towards strengthening their party candidates and getting them in office.

Now it's your turn. And the same goes for the DSCC.

Endorse an independent candidate - even Lieberman - over the candidate that Connecticut Democrats have chosen for a Senate run, and you have just declared war on the party that you claim to support.

Let me spell it out for you one more time:

W - A - R.

2. So, if Lieberman declares himself a Republican...
...you know where I'm going with this, right? Maybe Schumer's mom needs to have that "If all your friends jumped off the cliff, would you do it, too?" talk with her son again.

Schumer -> :spank: <- DU

5. You read this wrong. Schumer is Democrat with a Capital D. He is
supporting Leiberman in the primary, but he will support whoever the Dems nominate in the general election. His bluff about supporting Lieberman if he runs as an Independent is just a bluff. This guy is a player. He is a party player. He will not abandon the party. Right now he thinks that he is supporting the party by supporting an ancient as Methusala incumbent. However, he will show his yellow dog Democrat coloring if push comes to shove so do whatever you want and ignore his posturing.

Good try, Chuckie Baby. We are not fooled.

6. Democrats doing what they do best
practicing the 'Good Old Boys Club', while claiming the 'moral high road'.
And they wonder why they don't win elections.
It's time to start some new parties that might even pay some lipservice to
THE PEOPLE WHO PUT THEM IN OFFICE!

7. there is a lot of reason
why senate Dems support Lieberman. They hate the grassroots and if the grassroots throws Lieberwhore out...they will come looking for other Dems next...Schumer could be next...

12. OK
I still think you need to explain. Do you not believe in primaries at all? Do we just wait for the general election and choose between two horrible alternatives or do we try to get involved at a point when it could make a difference?

I remain completely mystified by your statement supporting the DSCC. Why bother enrolling in a party if you don't intend to participate? It seems to me that the only thing that you get out of your membership is more junk mail pleading for contributions and no input into how that money is used.
