Kitty-killer label litters Frist resume for president

http://tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060612/COLUMNIST0101/606120346/1092/NEWS

There's a potential pothole in U.S. Sen. Bill Frist's road to the White House: He's a confessed kitty killer.

He fessed up in his 1989 book, "Transplant," to adopting cats from shelters when he was in medical school, treating them like pets for a while, and then using them in his research experiments. Maybe in hindsight, Trent Lott should have seen it coming. To his credit, the future senator wrote that it was a "heinous and dishonest thing to do." Last week, Frist started shopping around a new memoir to New York and Tennessee publishers. Here's the burning question: How will he spin the cat tale?

It came up in Tennessee's 1994 Republican primary, when Frist faced five opponents for the nomination. It was Chattanooga's Bob Corker (he's in a similar cat fight for Frist's seat now) who tried to inflame the feline furor. Corker sent beef-and-bacon-flavored 9 Lives Cat Treats to reporters and put out a press release saying Frist had lost the Garfield vote.

It was a short-lived local story that briefly flared in the national press. Yes, what Frist did was odd and rather icky, but he also saved a lot of lives as a heart surgeon. The kitty killer charges were widely dismissed, and Frist won the primary. But running a national race is a different animal from running a statewide one. He'd better have an answer ready on the cat thing before he can even think about winning the GOP nomination. Running for president requires candidates to dump out their underwear drawer for all to see, answer questions about what color eye shadow their prom date wore, and explain any cross word ever said to their dry cleaner. In other words, it'll be brutal.

1. I think it certainly says something very important about a man who could
Edited on Mon Jun-12-06 03:54 PM by BrklynLiberal
go to a shelter, adopt a cat, take it home and treat it like a pet for a few days, and then take it to a lab and disect it like an animal to which he had no attachment whatsoever. VERY COLD. I would not want this man to be my doctor, for sure, and would not want his finger on the nuke-button either. How much could he truly value life?
The Schiavo episode also spoke volumes about his values and integrity, or rather his lack thereof, as well.

5. Yes, it's the deception...
...because the world is filled with surgeons who practiced on everything from cats to cadavers before hanging out their shingle. It's like the old line about how they make sausage: "You're better off not knowing." It's the manner in which Frist went about it. Very few people in this world lie once. If they lie about adopting cats and lie about their stock options they can lie about all kinds of things.

Anyone who has a pet knows how trusting they are, especially cats. In his book Catwatching, Desmond Morris says that cats never evolve past a mental state of adolescence, and they see their human owners as their mother.

Imagine that breach of trust. Imagine what goes through the mind of an innocent creature that's bonded with its human owner and now faces suffering and death at that human's hands...

I personally don't see Frist as the 2008 candidate, but if he does get that far, I hope his "story" is told in every living room in America.

Terry Schiavo was just another kitten to this bastard.

3. May Frist meet the same fate as his pets did.
Cats are loving creatures, they just want to sleep, play, and be good companions.

Frist is an evil, mean man with a hole instead of a soul.

7. I wish
People with cancerous personalities like frist has, were detected as threats to humanity when they were children and the little thugs were put away from cats ,other kids, anyone who was not as sociopathic as himself.Let the bullies that ruin every being they touch be forced live with each other or die.

I hope when Frist dies his putrid little soul is mauled over and over by the cats he murdered FOREVER.

I have no tolerance for cat killers or bullies. He should in a sane world be kept away from power, authority and medicine. The piece of shit in a human suit is NOT to be trusted or tolerated IMHO..The people who do trust him are messed up and potentially a danger to democracy and society with their enabling ignorance with detecting a sick character and moral blindness in a candidate.

Sekhmet Destroy, and collapse Frists false image, his "race"
Sekhmet Bring with your judgement,Maat's wrath upon the right wing..Sekhmet raise the veil of forgetfulness and P.R. lies, until the world sees how diseased Frist's soul is,sees his evil character with no blinders to censor it, and may the people who see the evil heart inside of Frist NEVER be able to forget what they saw or make believe and deny to themselves or each other Frist isn't depraved sick cancer upon society again.

11. What undergroundpanther said!
I agree with every word!

Sekhmet, I call upon thee to give Frist a very long and healthy life,
with his mind fully aware and alert throughout that long life.
During its entirety, may his every love return his affection with
toad-cold indifference and betrayal.
May his every secret be revealed to his worst enemies.
May all that Frist holds dear be taken from him, and that in such
a way or manner that the loss is the least of the pain.
May all his hopes be dashed and ruined, may all humanity and
all beasts hate and despise him.
May happiness flee from him, and every sorrow flock to him.
At the end of life, may his soul relive every torment inflicted
upon others for all eternity.
And beyond eternity, may he be dissolved, and the memory of his
foul existence expunged utterly.

9. Unlike the rest of the posters here, I freakin' hate cats...
they're pompous, arrogant little shits whose pee smells like their souls. Their ability to puke up "hairballs" that look exactly like turds speaks volumes about the species.

(why, yes, I am allergic. How could you tell? )

That said, even I find this vile. This sort of emotional detachment toward, and willingness to kill off, family pets is an early sign of antisocial personality disorder -- a.k.a. psychopathy -- when exhibited in children. What more do we need to know about Bill "Get some devastation in the back" Frist? Oh, and if you don't hate him yet, google that phrase I used for his nickname. Then you'll REALLY loathe the bastard.

13. I've felt the same way...
...if you "do the math" on what details are available, who in their right mind would want to roll the dice on the things he's kept hidden?

Take Bush, for an example. I don't know how well the people of Texas knew him when he was governor, but when he ran for president in 2000, I didn't know about the Oedipal-substance abusing-A.W.O.L.-fake Christian stuff that I discovered once he pitched his tent in the Oval Office. I didn't vote for him...I simply thought he was an idiot, and I never cared for his parents at all. I just didn't know what a dangerous idiot he was.

Radio personality Guy James has said repeatedly that he believes Mitt Romney will be the Republican nominee in 2008. It makes sense, because the skeletons in his closet aren't as visible as those of McCain (who's loathed by at least half of the freepers), Giuliani, or Frist.

If Frist does get the nomination, he needs a healthy dose of the "Karl Rove Treatment" from the Democratic side of the fence. ALL of this man's dirty laundry needs to be held up for public scrutiny. We don't need to have another four years of Psycho-In-Chief.

14. gee,
I really hope that this revelation doesn't get covered up by the M$M. Regardless of his intent at the outset, the fact is he lied, he killed and he didn't really regret it. I've been following anti-vivisection stories for about 30 years, and I can not and would not trust a fucker who says he is giving a cat a "good home" only to tear them apart for experiementation a couple of weeks later.

He is a cruel sonofabitch, and it has been proven scientifically that those who abuse animals are often psychotic, or at the very least, sociopaths. I think that Frist really needs to be diagnosed over the internet or from watching him on TV (a method that he himself endorses!) and shown to be such a nutcase that people will look at him like he has three heads. Many years ago, a good man was treated with contempt because he had been treated for depression, and he was not allowed to be nominated as a VP candidate. I think someone like Frist who has not only crossed that line, but plowed right through it, should be held in contempt as well.

16. What a sick man
"It was, of course, a heinous and dishonest thing to do, and I was totally schizoid about the entire matter. By day, I was little Billy Frist, the boy who lived on Bowling Avenue in Nashville and had decided to become a doctor because of his gentle father and a dog named Scratchy. By night, I was Dr. William Harrison Frist, future cardiothoracic surgeon, who was not going to let a few sentiments about cute, furry little creatures stand in the way of his career. In short, I was going a little crazy."

"Frist recently commented about the power he felt when holding the last beats of a dog's heart in his hand."

Can't wait to hear the Repubs spin this one.

the presidency. This is all going to come out when he runs nationally and he'll be in deep doodoo with voters of every constituency. How barbaric of him.

19. Lots of rednecks hate cats -- they threaten their insecure manhood.
Let's face it, in general, the men who are the coolest and most confident are the men who like/love cats.

Cat-hating men often (not always!) are insecure about their masculinity. They need a dog to slobber over them and prop up their fragile ego.

So, he won't lose the votes of the cat-hating nutcase far right. But if this story ever gained traction with the general public he would be in trouble.

Your point is probably true as well, but I think people who hate cats often tend to be control freaks, and you cannot control a cat.

23. Exactly.
That is often the case. Many hyper macho men hate cats because they want to control their wife, their kids, and their animals. They can make dogs cower at their feet, but cats just sort of blow them off. That makes them nuts.
