1. Just another day in dirty politics. When we let it get us down,
the terraists win. I mean, the other side wins.

Maybe I was right the first time...

2. Yanno .... as I am typing this reply ......
... there are 12 votes in the two most hopeless categories and a paltry 5 in the most hopefully category.

I recall just a few scant weeks ago, DU was all agog with hope. Bush was at 29. The Dems were being heard and Bush was looking like the lamest of ducks. There was palpable hope in the DU community.

And now ... this poll shows a marked reversal of that feeling of euphoria.

What changed?

3. In retrospect, I voted wrong. Should have picked one of the
last two.

Nevertheless, it pisses me off no end to see the gloom and doom reigning over DU, even if it's still a minority.

The elections in 2006/08 are OURS to lose, and if this is the caliber of feet on the ground we've got, we may as well just all go home.

Holy hell, I'm JAZZED for this election year like I haven't been since I campaigned for Jimmy Carter.

Dammit, let's kick some imperialist Republican ass, DU, okay?

5. Meds? Attention spans? Vacation schedules?
Nice weekend weather? Summerfest and soccer distraction? At this posting there are only 36 votes. Maybe all the optimists are out having fun.

4. We have an upward climb ahead
But we might actually win, if people in this country really give a shit.

However, before then, our economy will collapse, the rich will wipe out all but the poorest who they will keep for slaves and servants, the icebergs will melt and flood all the coastlines, tsunamis will destroy a great more, earthquakes will rock and destroy many regions, hurricanes and tornadoes will intensify and eventually blow many swaths of land to smithereens, and the population of the world will be cut in half or less, and only third world countries will survive to see tomorrow.

6. How about: I don't know if it's hopeless, and I don't care
Seriously. It may be hopeless and it may not be hopeless, but if anyone thinks I'm going to fucking give up, they can kiss my fat Irish ass. That hopeless, despairing, "let's give up 'cause we can't win" crap is for candy-asses and Republicans. I'm gonna keep fighting 'til I drop, and I'm damn well gonna make those bastards know they were in a real fight before it's over.

Or in the words of one of Oregon's favorite sons:

"Somebody may beat me, but they are going to have to bleed to do it."—Steve Prefontaine

9. I was torn between...
"It looks pretty bad, but over history the people have always regained control" and "It looks bad, but we can do it. We can win again. I have hope"

Funny that those two aren't next to each other.

I opted for the former, because indeed "It looks pretty bad..." I don't find the rest of the statement, "the people have always regained control," very comforting. It may have been true in the past, but I suspect the current regime is far worse than any we've had before, and if we don't take it back in 2006, there may not be enough left to matter.

I also like "It looks bad, but we can do it..." I still think we CAN do it, but I just don't have the level of hope that we WILL do it that the rest of the statement implies.

10. Given that poverty issues aren't important to either side,
it's pretty damned hopeless for those of us in that category.

First they came for the poor......

12. Do you want me to lie or do you want the truth?
If you want the truth, we're probably fucked. That's not a reason to give up, because circumstances can change drastically. But it don't look good.

If it was a lie you wanted, well um, Rah Rah Rah! GO TEAM!! :patriot:
