The American Family Association Makes Themselves Look Like Idiots Again
Here is there description of two recent movie releases...

(AgapePress) - Two horror films opened over the last week. One told the story of how a diabolical evil is spawned in a God-rejecting culture unleashing wanton destruction on everything it touches. The other film was about the Antichrist.

You can probably guess that the film about the Antichrist was the Omen, so what is this film about "how a diabolical evil is spawned in a God-rejecting culture unleashing wanton destruction on everything it touches". It certainly sounds scary until you realize they are referring to the "The Break Up". Why was it so frightening...because the couple portrayed in the movie was not married. That is what constitutes "diabolical evil...unleashing wanton destruction" in the eyes of the American Family Association.

See according to the AFA "The Omen" is not scary because...

Let's face it. It is unimaginable that the rise of the Antichrist will look anything at all like The Omen films. If John Kerry couldn't be elected President, who would support a sallow, staring, stone-faced demon child in his bid to be the leader of the world.? You can get away with a lot in politics, but The Omen takes the idea of digging up dirt on a candidate to a whole new level.

So the Omen is not scary because according to the AFA John Kerry is the anti-christ and he couldn't become President. The Break Up however is far more scary because

The fear in The Break-up is amplified because Brooke and Gary are not married. Their hearts are entrusted to each other on the slimmest of premises: how they happen to feel about each other on a given day. When a series of events pushes Brooke over the edge, she concludes that she deserves better and utters the devastating words that begin this couple's unstoppable decline. True commitment signified by a God-honoring marriage might have done a lot to put some brakes on the slide.

Let us see if they will be running any stories in the future about how fundies are Godless because they have the highest divorce rate in the nation. Somehow I think they will want us to ignore that simple fact and instead be fearful of "liberal Hollywood" for portraying unmarried couples.

1. I do have to say, that without the marriage slip of paper,
it would be unwise to invest in anything as substantial as a condo. Also, I think they have a little bitty point. I lived with my husband for 4 yrs before we married. It does feel different being married, and I am more committed to working through our problems, then running out the door. I didn't think that the marriage slip would make it different, but it really has. Which is one of the reasons I completely support gay marriage. I belive in keeping families together and trying.

2. I don't completely disagree with you, but would you not say...
it comes off as more than a bit extreme to say that nonmarried couples portray a "diabolical evil is spawned in a God-rejecting culture unleashing wanton destruction on everything it touches"?

Marriage certainly can help hold relationships together, but to suggest all unmarried couples are evil as this article does is absolute extremism.

3. Another telling point . . .
The fundies focus a lot on outward appearance: "Let's face it. It is unimaginable that the rise of the Antichrist will look anything at all like The Omen films. If John Kerry couldn't be elected President, who would support a sallow, staring, stone-faced demon child in his bid to be the leader of the world.?"

Who cares what he looks like? The Bible doesn't even mention anything about the Antichrist's looks. For all we know, he looks like . . . a chimp!

5. What got me is how the subliminally compare Kerry to the anti-Christ.
Wow... and it wasn't even subtle!

4. I had to wonder,as I suffered through the trailer for The Omen,
why in the world does the church get all riled up about a movie like Da Vinci Code, yet you rarely hear a peep from them about movies like The Omen? Apparently a movie about two self-absorbed singles breaking up is much more horrifying than a hideous bloodfest swirling around a demon-possessed child.
