What if the Republicans win both House and Senate in November?
What do you do then? Do you buckle down and try that much harder in seeing that this is a much longer struggle? Or do you give up on the political process altogether? Will you look at the Democratic Party in a different way? Will you think they are impotent and no longer a viable competitor for the fascist Republicans? What will be your plan if the Democrats actually lose both Houses in November?

1. That cannot happen at any cost
If it does, then all bets are off as far as the Democratic "old guard" is concerned.

14. The key point is your statement "old guard"
they haven't been doing their job for years. As an opposition or minority party it is pathetic

Until we start cleaning house within, we are going to have problems winning nationally

2. Continue to fight the good fight - only louder
and willing to go out further on the limb to talk about it with everyone you know and don't know. Continue to organize, share ideas, write LTTEs, throw what money you can at potential candidates, attend Democratic trainings, continue to work at the local level to build up your party, keep hope alive. Else why get up in the morning?

12. Or you could move to Pitcairn Island
This tiny southern Pacific island is where the mutineers from the HMS Bounty fled to escape Captain Blifh in 1789. Thus, it's a place with a tradition of fleeing from injustice. Today about 50 people live there, most direct descendants of the mutineers.

It's not easy to emigrate there either. No 90 day visa. You have to apply to be allowed on the isladn and then a local council must approve the application. After that, you have to reapply every six months. Once you hit four years, the governor can choose to give you permanent residency status.

Moving to Pitcairn Island is about as strong a statmetnt as you can make.

Or you could stay and fight to restore democracy :)

Those democratic representatives who do NOT represent democratic values have to be replaced by Democrats that do represent those values

5. No, I will try and evaluate each race.
The Rethugs have major advantages over us. We forget that at our peril. This is a long and very difficult and expensive effort. There will be defeats, disappointments and things that do not go as we expect.

I am in it for the long haul. (I always have been.) If we don't take a branch of Congress, I will go back to work and begin to plan for '08. There is nothing that I have yet seen that has shown that the Rethugs are ready to roll over and give up. This is going to be very difficult. We need committed people who understand that on our side. This is a long haul effort.

6. They are going to lose, so prepare to suck it up. The "invisible"
Republican voters are going to keep appearing, and the Democrats will still keep freaking out about why their message isn't resonating with voters.

I hate to be practical here, but when the same folks who program the slot machines in Las Vegas are counting the votes, only a fool thinks a "fair" election is going to result.

13. Better food, better weather, can't beat Mexico
It's a pretty repressive culture in a lot of ways, though, so culture shock will be a real problem.

If you're any sort of visual artist or just have a great appreciation for the visual arts, it's paradise.

I like Mexico and have often considered moving there at least part time. Got my town up in the mountains all picked out.

10. They probably will
In fact I have already prepared myself for that

We have to think long term, and start to elect people in our party that represent Democratic and progressive values. People that are willing to speak up and fight for those values

This is a transition, not only for the Democrats, but also for the country

Voting turnout is a disgrace.

How will it change?

As more and more people get hurt by the policies, that is when they will get involved, and start to vote for people that will help them

One candidate at a time, one issue at a time

Since I'm young, I'm prepared to wait 20 years for us to recover power. I hope I don't have to wait that long, but I'm beginning to see this as a process which will take many years, and won't be solved in just one election.

18. I for one will give up on the bums
If they can't capitalize on the most corrupt Congress and Administration in history they can't do anything. This is my last time to support such a losing cause. I will vote only Independent if at all. The USA is running a deficit of over a hundred thousand dollars a second and not one Democratic Leader has even mentioned this fact. Government Spending is a Republican issue and we can't even capitalize on this.... talk about an exercise in futility..

I will not devote the rest of my life to banging my head against a brick wall. If we can't get serious leaders with a message and can't get our party off their fat asses to win this, it's fucking over.

If we don't win back ONE branch of government this November, the fucking Reich-wingers will cause WWIII and turn this country into Nazi Germany.

38. not. a. chance.
There is little likelihood that the Democrats will lose ground from where we stand now in terms of the House and Senate, even if we don't capture one or both. And even in some unlikely worst case scenario, if we did lose ground it would be marginal. The bottom line is that the country will remain very closely divided, as it is now. ANd there will be no third party with any chance of replacing the Democrats.
