Former Vice President Al Gore, who narrowly lost the 2000 presidential vote, would be a viable contender if he ran again in 2008, said Sen. Joseph Biden, himself a likely candidate, on Sunday. "I think he'd be viable and I think he would be welcomed," said Biden, a Delaware Democrat, on NBC's "Meet the Press." "I'd welcome him getting involved."
"I think it (a Gore campaign) would add to the debate that this party has to have," said Biden, who has said he intends to run. But Gore again insisted he had no intentions of making another White House bid, though his failure to rule out the possibility has allowed speculation that he may do so.
Appearing on ABC's "This Week," Gore said he was focused on alerting people of the threat of global warming, most recently with his new movie, "An Inconvenient Truth." "I honestly believe that the highest and best use of my skills and experience is to try to change the minds of people in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world about this planetary emergency," said Gore, who lost the 2000 election to Republican George W. Bush.
Asked about another White House bid, Gore said, "I can't imagine any circumstances in which I would become a candidate again. I've found other ways to serve. I'm enjoying them." Biden, asked if he expects Gore to run for president again, said: "I have no idea. I truly have no idea."
