I think liberalism is a fantastic thing!
From social security to the minimum wage, from civil rights for all to rural electrification, liberals have done great things for this country.

I'm a DU member becuase I want to see liberalism advanced EVERYWHERE throughout our country and I like talking to and debating with the large percentage of the population on this board who like liberalism as well. It gives me hope.

Whether you are extremely liberal or a more moderate liberal, most of you and me agree that liberalism has not "failed" but has done great things and that we should fight to make sure it does more great things in the future!

My name is darboy and I'm a liberal!

2. Bless you for that, darboy, dear boy, bless you!
In the home where I grew up, "conservative" was a dirty word, as was "Hoover," since my parents had lived through the Great Depression and saw first-hand the tender compassion the Republicans have for one and for all. Franklin D. Roosevelt was a secular saint, and unquestionably the greatest American hero. I can't think of a single bad thing liberals have done, except roll over and play dead for the past six years, but maybe that's changing. It HAS to change, or we're all doomed. I can't think of a single good thing conservatives have ever done. Period. I'm a proud liberal, and proud to call darboy my friend and compatriot! :hippie: :toast: :hi: :kick:

Gives me a chance to be a fly on the wall, and to think, I have no enemies thanks to liberalism, just insightful solutions for change for the welfare of all. Peace

19. so much faith in polls....
The polls said that Dean was going to win Iowa and NH in a landslide in Nov 2003, two months before he finished a disappointing third in Iowa, and a nearly fatal second in NH.

Don't tell me that the polls today have ANY bearing whatsoever on the outcome. Two weeks, let alone two months, is an eternity.

25. I'm smart enough to know that move On's poll is not scientific
but there is some major discontent within the state. Ned wouldn't get 33% of convention delegates otherwise.

Now, Ned getting 33% is a big deal. That is like getting 33% of Red Sox fans to root for the Yankees in the world series. It's a big deal.

If you think a wet behind the ears novice named Lamont is going to beat a 3-term beloved Senator in Lieberman, you're sorrily mistaken.

13. It's conservatism that's failed
Liberalism has given this country many great things. Conservatism has succeeded only in taking some of them away. I'm a liberal. Always have been. Always will be.

21. I'm proud to be a liberal!
I never understood how liberal became such a bad word in this country. I mean, if anyone looks at the facts, how could anyone demonize someone with liberal beliefs? I've also always been perplexed at how being liberal somehow became synonymous with being anti-American, Godless, or anti-Christian to so many misguided people. Being liberal goes along with my own Christian values, whereas being a member of the right wing goes against everything Jesus ever taught. Just because I accept, respect, love, and want to help people who don't believe as I do, who don't have the same skin color, the same gender, the same sexual orientation, the same religious beliefs, etc. etc., I have been branded as an evil liberal. While those on the right spend their time and energy searching for people to condemn and vilify, they leave the poor, the sick, and the elderly to fend for themselves. Meanwhile they allow giant oil and chemical companies to destroy the planet and multi-national corporations to enslave millions of people in abject poverty. Even with this, somehow they have conned millions of Americans into thinking that they are holy and righteous and that liberals are wicked and un-American. Not to mention the fact that they start wars in which thousands upon thousands of innocent men, women and children are brutally injured and killed. That doesn't sound very righteous to me.

I don't get that. I am literally scratching my head in disbelief at this moment.

I am a liberal and damn well proud of it! I am also a Christian, and proud of that as well. I am also proud of the fact that being liberal means being accepted by other liberals regardless of what your spiritual beliefs are or even if you don't have any. It's an interesting thing for me to admit, but I would have more faith in an atheist liberal running my government than one of those so-called Christian conservatives. I may try (in a respectful way) to convert the person, but I would respect and stand by him/her because I know he/she would make decisions with true integrity, true compassion, true respect for the sanctity of life, and with the well being of humanity as his/her guide.

Good for you!

I think that we have allowed the RWs to slander us. We have to take ownership of the word liberal - as well as 'moonbat', which will probably piss the living hell out of them - and not allow them to slime a political ideology that defined this country at its founding and has done nothing but help society for centuries.

I don't know why that's an insult. I think it's a great word and I'm happy to wear it proudly. I'm just sad that I haven't seen a really great moonbat logo. I'd love to use it. If anyone knows where one is...

well not an economic liberal. Economic neo-liberalism is destroying the planet. I'm a socialist in economics (whichever room i'm in) and libertarian in peoples individual freedom.
