Where are the Democratic voices..
Edited on Mon May-29-06 10:37 AM by jasonc
To speak up against this?

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/05/28.html#a8476

We have MUCH bigger problems than gay marriage and flag burning in this country, one of our biggest is Frist himself. I want to know where are the Democratic voices to speak up against this?

Who is defending my Constitutional Rights?

Who is making sure I can continue to peacably assemble, or practice my religion without the governments interference?
(Amendment 1)

Who is defending my protections against unlawful search and seizure, and ensuring the government does not take that right away?
(Amendment 4)

Who is ensuring the governmenet does not haul me or anyone else to prison without my right to a trial.
(Amendment 5)

Who is defending my right to confront my accusers at any trial, and to be represented by my own lawyer?
(Amendment 6)

All of the above are from the Bill of Rights, and have been ignored by the Bush admin, against US citizens.

They have brought religion to the polititcal forefront, only to gain votes.

They have created "Free Speech Zones," outside of which you will be arrested for protesting in the presence of the president.

They have authorized warrantless wiretapping of the phones and possibly even internet traffic of US citizens.

And they have even hauled US citizens away without a trial, or counsel of any kind.

This has to stop, it must be stopped. We the people of the United States that value true freedom and democracy must stand up and not allow this to happen. We must vote out every single person in both the House and Senate that has ever voted for anything the Bush admin has done, or has not said anything when it needed to be said. Every single person that has displayed they have no backbone needs to be voted out because they have shown they lack the character and moral courage to lead the people of the United States and to represent the values this country was founded on.

I want everyone to be in the streets protesting and I want everyone to make sure there voices are heard come election time.

NO MORE OF THE SAME, DEMOCRAT AND REPUBLICAN ALIKE!

1. The Democratic voices have been silenced by the media
when will the people on this board realize this. A dem speaks and it's as if he is speaking to the wind, because it doesn't get reported. A dem allegedly commits a crime and it's splashed all over the place.

The repub spin is all over the place and their crimes are either unreported or relegated to the back pages.

Dem protests are under estimated, repub protests are over estimated. The truth has given way to "fairness", or truthiness.

It is time to get off our asses and take our country back.

3. Not sure why you're here.
"We must vote out every single person in both the House and Senate that has ever voted for anything the Bush admin has done"

That is a pretty blanket statement that almost assuredly includes every Dem Senator, and probably every Dem US Rep.

I'm pretty sure it's a violation of DU rules to work against the Democratic Party as a whole. Criticism of specific actions or statements is allowed, but your post is blanket, as I read it.

Just sayin.

4. Why should we...
Edited on Mon May-29-06 12:53 PM by jasonc
...Keep around any congressman/woman or senator that has remained silent, or even gone along with, the Bush admin, while they have taken our rights away and solidified their grip on power effectively turning this into a police state?

Are they not complicit in it?

I am here because the politicians in Washington are NOT the democratic party, we are. WE make up the Democratic party, they work for us, not the other way around. We need to ensure that the people we vote for represent us, not themsleves.

Blindly supporting a person simply because they claim to be a member of the Democratic party is not enough. We have to elect people that have the character to stand up and make themselves heard when things are wrong, and we as voters have to be able to stand up and demand that our elected officials do their jobs and represent the people that elected them.

5. Many have been silenced by the corporate-owned media...
But there are many Democrats speaking out. Unfortunately, the only ones we are permitted to see or hear are on the Sunday corporate talk shows. We know who they are. I don't have to say. However, please do not lump the Democrats in with the bunch of fascists now in power. The Democrats are your only hope at this time.

7. We are working on that..
:)

They are walking around in a pit of darkness called our "government". They need to be led to the light. They are blind. We all have a big old flashlight called the "vote"...

Who We Are: Democratic Underground is an online community for Democrats and other progressives. Members are expected to be generally supportive of progressive ideals, and to support Democratic candidates for political office.

Your post does not sound like it is talking about primaries. It seems to me you are advocating a "throw the bums out" approach which would favor any challenger over any incumbent, regardless of party.

28. It doesn't, but that is not what your post says.
Perhaps you should have been clearer in the op that you only intend to stoke primary challenges - realizing of course that the time is pretty much past for 2006, so you must be talking long term.

8. Where Is JasonC
Well you have spoken out on a Democratic website. Good For You.

Why aren't you running for office so you can speak for us.

Why aren't you organizing a coalition of Progressive Voters to take back the House.

Why aren't you on the corner in every city in the Country yelling about this.

Some look at things as they are and say, why. Others look at what could be and say, why not.

My advice is get organized and pull all your groups together and work to take back the House and Senate. Then maybe the media will put a Dem on the air.

I hear many Democrats speaking out. Try supporting them instead of ripping what you think does not exist.

THEY ARE SPEAKING OUT, YOU AREN'T LISTENING.

Then again I have Durbin and Obama. Maybe they could say more, but they are doing a damn good job.

Edited on Mon May-29-06 02:58 PM by jasonc
Every monday - friday 5-6 pm holding a sign and protesting the Bush regime.

I am also planning on running for congress in a few years when I get out of Law School.

I have also interned and volunteered on a congressional campaign.

I also write a blog to let others know what is going on.

I am active on campus.

What have you done lately?

Great you're against Bush, but advocating against the entire Democratic Party is a position that I don't support. I completely disagree with you that the entire party is doing nothing. If you were running on that in my district/state, I would not support you!

11. Also,
What have Durbin and Obama done to ensure our next election will be fair and all votes will count?

What have ANY democratic congressmen/women or Senators done to ensure that when I go vote on Nov 2nd, that my vote will be counted and there will be no "irregularities" as there have been in the last two presidential elections?

Better yet, what are you doing to promote it and help it get to the floor for a vote, and get passed?

Do you even know what I am talking about?

26. You can find out
Go to thomas.loc.gov and look up all the bills that Obama sponsored. I'll give you a hint - it's titled "A bill to prohibit deceptive practices in Federal elections."

You can read the text of the bill and find out who cosponsored it. You can find out what committee it's stuck in and start agitating for it to get passed.

While you're about it you may want to look up the other bills that have been introduced this section dealing with election issues.

19. ** AHEM **
YOUR WORDS:

We must vote out every single person in both the House and Senate that has ever voted for anything the Bush admin has done, or has not said anything when it needed to be said.

That fits Durbin and Obama, as well as every other Senator and probably all the House members.

That is why your post is Dem-bashing - you have left no room for differentiation AT ALL.

30. The Dems that voted yes
in my opinion deserve to be ran against and be replaced with a new Democrat.

As for the others, They need to prove their worth, but in my opinion we the people need to reassert our role in governing our country.

But they are released for the media to have. Talk to the media that now only allows on a few Democrats lately.

Here are the press releases from the DNC. Here are the blog statements from the DNC. The media pays no attention.
