Now is the time for Sen. Edwards to seriously consider VP to Kerry
Just consider it. At this moment John Edwards, son of a mill worker, senator from the proud state of Sorth Carolina, basks in the glory of his overwhelming victory in his home state, anticipating the future.

If Sen. Edwards fights on, I believe he could do that with honor and vigor. I actually believe he could draw substanative differences between his record on trade (NAFTA) with John Kerry in Michigan. In that atmosphere Sen. Kerry could find himself on the defensive there with the automobile industry with his support of tougher fuel efficiency standards. But right now Kerry is way ahead in Michigan.

I heard Sen. Edwards speak of better chances in Tennesee and Virginia. Tennesee, fine. But Kerry's Virginia organization has him ahead there.

Point is, this may be Senator Edward's finest victory. Not the last that he could achieve, by any means. I know he has said that he wouldn't be interested. It is too early. But I don't think he can wait too long before he will have to completely reject the idea of teaming with "his good friend" John Kerry.

Take too much out of John Kerry's hide and continue to trail and Sen. Edwards could find himself out of the Senate, out of consideration for VP, and out of the national sphere of influence. Like Al.

The Vice-Presidency is not a trivial offer for a relative newcomer to the national stage like John Edwards. And you really have to squeeze rocks to find room between their philosophies and records. I've tried. These fellows are a perfect North/South pair; youth/experience. I admire them both. You fill in the rest.

Tick-tock, tick tock. Tick, tock people. Time's slipping away.

4. I think
Edwards truly believes Kerry won't play in many parts of the country needed to win. What good is #2 on a losing ticket? I expect Senator Edwards to fight on.

5. No, it's time for a respectful campaign
Besides, the Democratic Party desperately needs this debate. How are we going to go forward in respect to trade. Get it all out there and let the people decide.

6. nah, not yet, if at all...
Edwards is still solidly in the race to win.

But if Kerry locks it up, I'm not sure two sitting Senators is the best team.

7. NO, NO , NO
i really hate these type of posts. just focus on our candidate doing well. edwards had a good day today and he has the chance to actually win. if you care about kerry winning you would focus on him doing well in future states. these type of posts do not help at all.

9. Wait and see: the political world might be different tomorrow.
If Edwards can hold OK, the media and pundits will give him three or more days of solid coverage, which equals name recognition. Clinton had only won ONE primary out of nine, at this point in 1992. Edwards now has a new chance for the Number One spot, and he is capable of fully exploiting it.

10. Ha! There's no way he would do that...
...because it would be a slap in the face of all his supporters...

If Kerry deserves to be the nominee, he will beat Edwards in a fair fight.

Edwards owes it to his supporters just as Dean owes it to his. These two men will fight on.

career that none of the others have, so it's not as though he's concerned that he'll be without a job and will need to take steps to keep that at bay. I think that returning to the private sector and being a successful attorney (and speaker) may be more attractive to him than a Vice Presidency, particularly given lifestyle issues. While the VP slot may be more attractive to people who don't have an alternative, it may not be to him.

But most of all, his performance tonight shows he is still a viable candidate for President, and I think until the voters tell him that that is no longer the case, he really hurts himself by thinking and talking about VP or other positions.

33. I think VP would be attractive to Edwards if he really wants to be Pres.
He is young, and who gets a better chance at the Presidency than a sitting Vice President ? This is all supposing he doesn't win the nomination of course which he may.

18. No, now is not the time. He's running for president, not VP
He won tonight, and could pull off an upset in OK. A VP offer is insulting.

20. Does the Vp add to midwest - or Florida - chances? Gep or Edwards?
Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 10:05 PM by papau
Or Bob G as a go for broke in FL

or Dean as a high energy balance to Kerry's laid back manner

Or if Edwards pulls it out does he pick up Clark as VP?

I think this will go to March 2nd - at least sort of.

29. he's not interested in that job
and he's right about that.

He cannot win the south from the 2 spot, without the south we won't win so whats the point in volunteering to become a loser ?

Unlike Gore, there are other things he can do. That guy will never lack for challenges in his life.

Worst case he heads back into the courtroom and triples his fees.
