Great News from the Pennsylvania Primaries: IE Senate & Governor
Mind you this was only the primaries and you could only vote for who was in your party. But even if that candidate doesn't have an opponent he/she will still be listed on the ballot. So this is merely a comparison of all the republican candidates who voted and bothered to flip the switch for an unopposed candidate vs. all the democratic candidates who did the same thing

Governor: Governor Ed Rendell(D) vs. Lynn Swann (R-without a clue)

Rendell: 637,044
Swann: 574,276
Rendell got 52% of the vote!!
http://www.electionreturns.state.pa.us/ElectionReturns.aspx?control=StatewideReturns&ElecID=12&OfficeID=3

Senator:
Bob Casey Jr: 621,215 (mind you, he had 2 opponents who also got about 100k votes combined)
Rick Santorum: 552,559
Here's a scary thought - everyone in Pennsylvania can only vote for candidates within their registered party AND even though Swann & Santorum are BOTH unopposed they would be on every single republican ballot in Pennsylvania. And yet Rick Santorum actually received 4% less votes than Republican Lynn Swann received - ie about 22,000 Republican Pennsylvanians flipped the level for Swann but couldn't be bothered to vote for Santorum.

2. Do you happen to know what the turn out was in Pa yesterday?
I looked at the results, and noticed a similar statistic as you did. LOTS more Dem voters went to the polls! What I haven't seen was what % of the eligible voters actually bothered.

3. Well, maybe this can help
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/PA/P/00/

Mind you, that's a presidential election but this primary was about 20% of what turned out for the 2004 presidental election.

No time for us to pop the bubbly in celebration - just get motivated by these numbers and work hard for the next 6 months

4. Lynn Swan, good lord! Who next, "The Terminator" They
the Republicans, are so cynical. I suggest that Mr. Swan has a bit of that in him too.

I hope the Democrats just clean their clock...tie them to BushBushBush...7/24...BushBushBush...

That's their cross to bear and they will have a mighty task.

(Besides Swan was part of those Steeler teams that cheated my glorious warriors on
more than a few occasions;)

7. HEY! WAIT A MINUTE! Don't bring the Steeler dynasty into this!
They may not have been YOUR team, but they were MINE! Swannie was a good football player, I just don't want to see him in politics.

Franco Harris is an amazingly wonderful person who gives so much back to the community that made him famous. I only wish we here in the Philly area had someone just as amazing!

13. I can't see Franco doing anything for Swann. He hasn't ,has he?
Franco has remained in the Pittsburgh community and does TONS of public service things and a lot of good deeds which have never been publicized - because that is the kind of fine man that he is. Swann, on the other hand, has not done squat for his community and will NEVER sign an autograph when asked, cause he sells autographed sports paraphernalia on line. His campaign staff finally read him the riot act and said when you're out fundraising, you better start signing sourveneirs for people when asked.

..you probably believe we actually landed on the moon too!;) He was a great player, lots of courage running those patterns across the middle. What's up, he doesn't have enough to keep him busy. He should be buying real estate in Pittsburgh, that place is hot. But no politics, please. Although I'd give major dollars if Fred Belitnikoff ran against Arnie (haha). Freddie would kick...
