Fineman on Matthews Sunday: Dems will launch "The Plan" in Sep
If Fineman knows this, obviously Rove does. If we wait until Sep to release our version of "The Contract w/America" won't it be too late?

Also aren't we opening ourselves up to a series of counter offensives by doing it so late and having it leaked?

1. I don't think so...
Fineman says it on talking head shows right now but it won't get a lot of circulation with all the other news that is out there.

Plus he's probably aware of "The Plan" but not been given the specific details of such plan.

2. Didn't the actual Contract on America come out late, too?
I thought it came out after the August recess?

3. I believe you are correct - the GOP timing in 94 did seem to work :-)

6. I am sick of "contracts" with America
They are usually done by political hacks, who, like the corporations most of these shills represent, will either fail to honor their contract outright, or will change the rules so they no long have to honor them.

7. Not a good idea
to announce that it's coming out later because it gives Republican strategists time to:

a) Innoculate
b) Spin
c) Marginalize

any plan that we come up with.

9. Certain Dems seem to have a bad habit
of telegraphing, then backtracking, then weakening punches with bad timing. It is not necessary to shoot oneself in the foot because it seems like the time to shoot. We have been treated to some real headslappers and not just gaffes taken out of context and spun. Those most addicted to caution have made the most incautious and egregious statements. I don't think dean or Kucinich who let it all hang out and were mercilessly attacked ever made errors as taking impeachment off the table, attacking party progressives, granting failed elections credibility, above and beyond the call of political common sense.

The other side errs the other way with belligerent whoppers with total arrogance. Countering that in a hostile media does demand prudence, but even more wisdom and courage. It sometimes may feel like someone holding a bottle of aspirin announcing they'd like to offer it to a cancer victim. The people are ready for a lot more.
