Thom Hartmann had a CNS news guy on again...part of Brent Bozell's group.
Several times I have heard Thom have someone on from the CNS, Cybercast News Service. Thom does not seem to be aware of who they are, but I must say I tune out when they are on. Maybe he does know, and I did not realize it. CNS is a part of the MRC formed by Brent Bozell. I guess I have a problem with their being given air time on our left leaning media. They were never fair with us like this, nor will they be.

From their site:
http://www.cnsnews.com/

"Study after study by the Media Research Center, the parent organization of CNSNews.com, clearly demonstrate a liberal bias in many news outlets – bias by commission and bias by omission – that results in a frequent double-standard in editorial decisions on what constitutes "news."

In response to these shortcomings, MRC Chairman L. Brent Bozell III founded CNSNews.com in an effort to provide an alternative news source that would cover stories that are subject to the bias of omission and report on other news subject to bias by commission."

And here is the About page from the Media Research center.

http://www.mediaresearch.org/about/aboutwelcome.asp
"The mission of the Media Research Center is to bring balance to the news media. Leaders of America's conservative movement have long believed that within the national news media a strident liberal bias existed that influenced the public's understanding of critical issues. On October 1, 1987, a group of young determined conservatives set out to not only prove — through sound scientific research — that liberal bias in the media does exist and undermines traditional American values, but also to neutralize its impact on the American political scene. What they launched that fall is the now acclaimed — Media Research Center (MRC)."

"The MRC, headquartered in Alexandria, VA, began modestly with a handful of employees, a black and white TV, and a rented computer. The first order of business was to organize a research operation second to none. For years, conservatives could only present the anecdotal evidence of liberal journalists' bias — a question in this interview, a statement in that report. However, anecdotal examples of bias do not prove a liberal agenda. Only through thorough, comprehensive, and ongoing analysis based on quantitative and qualitative research can one document liberal bias in the media.

That moved MRC founder and president, L. Brent Bozell III, to take the necessary steps to develop the MRC's News Tracking System (NTS), a custom-designed computer database and archiving system that today provides the conservative movement's now-thriving media personalities and the public alike, with the evidence necessary to confront the liberal media."

6. When I hear the words Ayn Rand, I turn it off for a while.
At least he acts like he knows who they are and confronts them.

2. Thom likes to debate wingnuts.
He takes on the top level shit producers so we'll see how it's done and hear their talking points. All to be better armed when we have to deal with the low level shit.

4. I know about these people. I wondered why he has them on.
I have also known about them for years.....I don't like the tactic on our side of having the opposition on when too many are not good at arguing with them.

Actually there are many new people at DU who quote NewsMax as real news, the Washington Times and UPI as real news, and who probably don't know about the Bozell group.

5. I heard an idiot (maybe the same one) from there last week when he was
subbing for Randi. I wondered why he was giving air-time to this asshole too. It wasn't like he was really challenging him either. Thom would call his BS, but when the freeper ignored the rebuttal, Thom let him off.

It didn't make any sense to me.

7. Thom is too mellow for me...I agree with what he says...
but he seems to enjoy being a calm guy more then a guy with good points. Just my opinion.

8. Thom is no fool
His morning show broadcasts out of here (Portland), and I'm a frequent listener. He is probably the best read of the AAR lineup, and is a take-no-prisoners liberal. He puts these nuts on the air and listens respectfully, and takes their arguments apart. I think it's very effective. I love Randi. But she is too quick to jump on conservative callers(hell, she cuts off liberals that she disagrees with). I say that a good radio host should give a wingnut caller or guest enough rope to hang him/herself. That is exactly what Hartmannn does.

10. I listen to him via internet from noon to 3.
We really do like him. I just find those like Bozell and the Ayn Rand group reprehensible, and they unfortunately are very convincing to those listening who do not really know who they are...and what they stand for.
