Edited on Mon May-01-06 04:58 PM by Tiggeroshii
In general, does DU approve or dissaprove of the immigration protest going on today(3/1-Day without an immigrant day)?

2. It's May Day. I support all international protests against the...
status quo of greed and corruption and exploitation of people for personal profit. I support people who condemn those who value profits more than people. Illegal immigration is a sympton of the system of international corporate exploitation of people everywhere.

IF the campaign to regulate the greedy and their corporations ultimately fails, then I believe people have an inalienable right to rip down, tear down, and level by any means necessary those people and those corporations.

5. WTF? What a crock of crap.
"I believe people have an inalienable right to rip down, tear down, and level by any means necessary those people and those corporations."

What part of the Constitution does that come from?

7. The Planet is for People
With blood and bones and names and faces. Not invisible entities that benefit 2% and leave the rest to starve. I don't care if it is or isn't in the Constitution, People have a right to save themselves.

3. No, don't support them at all.
The idea of ILLEGAL immigrants demanding certain rights just boggles my mind.

If you truly want to claim American citizenship and take advantage of all this country has to offer, then come here LEGALLY.

Now, if these were 100% legal immigrants, then we could talk.

But as far as I'm concerned these people have no rights if they are here illegally.

8. ILLEGAL??
Edited on Mon May-01-06 07:04 PM by Popol Vuh

Ok, I am going to try and remain as calm as I can with respect to this history ignoring argument.

Wounded Knee.....Sand Creek......The Removal Act.....Genocide!!!....Genocide!!!.....Genocide!!!

Treaty Violation....Treaty Violation....Treaty Violation!

The fact of the matter, which remains ignored, is that ALL none Indian and Mexican peoples who are here, are here at the expense of millions of people's lives that were exterminated and their lands taken from them ILLEGALLY.

Now you might say: "Yeah but I am not the one who committed these acts". And I would say in return. "Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that what you have (in the way of living here), was gotten for you ILLEGALLY. Sort of like receiving stolen goods. So if you have no problem with that, then why do you have a problem with those who's ancestors were the ones victimized by the ILLEGAL acts from white Europeans? After all, if you wish to make a comparison's of these illegal acts; then look at it this way. White European descendants got here by committing illegal acts of genocide and other acts supported by the barrel of a gun. On the other hand compare that to what you are calling illegal acts by these peoples....these peoples who are, after-all, native to America.

Also, might I suggest a reexamination of the U.S. Constitution with respect to what you call as "having no rights".. No rights?

In the U.S. Constitution there are references with respect to rights to U.S. Citizens -- such as "All U.S. Citizens have a right to vote". The U.S. Constitution is also just as implicit as to the RIGHTS of others who might not be U.S. Citizens. An example would be: "No PERSON shall be deprived of property without due process".

The U.S. Constitution DOESN'T just give rights to Citizens. It also gives rights to none citizens as well....

I am sorry if I've been a little harsh. But it just does not settle well with me when I see people calling other people illegal, when these so-called illegal people are doing nothing but trying to feed their families from starving. Especially when the dire circumstances these poor peoples are in, are as a direct result of the havoc our economic and other foreign policies have caused upon these peoples.

12. I see where you are going...
And I just had this conversation with a family member the other day.

However, the fact remains that many of these immigrants are here illegally. We have a process in place for people who want to come to this country and become American citizens, with all the rights and priviledges thereof.

And if someone doesn't want to follow those processes, they shouldn't be affored certain rights here.

Our entire immigration policy needs to be revamped.

We let these Hispanics and Mexicans come here. We even have that crazy wet foot/dry foot policy that says if you make it to land, you can stay.

Yet, this country doesn't welcome Haitains. Any Haitain who trys to come here is quickly turned around.

6. We're talking illegal immigrants here
I have no problem with people who immigrate legally. This is not for legal immigrants, but those who have trespassed in to our country. I believe we should secure our borders and send those who crossed illegally back. We should also go after the industries who hire them and hit them in the pocketbook. If these businesses were paying a living wage then Americans would be doing these jobs.

17. I approve.
There is much to learn on how these people have been able to get together and protest. I think that we " Mystical Little People" have a lot to learn. Hell we can't even make our own Government start fining the hell out of the companies that hire these people. All Americans can do is bitch and cry.

18. Of course I do - my family is all imigrants from EVERYWHERE!
Edited on Mon May-01-06 09:56 PM by TankLV
I'd be hypocritical and dishonest if I didn't.

I'm not a repuke, so I'm not hypocritical.

I fib sometimes, tho - like when I take a day off work in place of a weeks vacation like everyone else because I'm so busy and they would frown on it!

And this protest is about the treatment of ALL imigrants, including those who are LEGAL, not just some arbitrary definition of "illegal".

When my and YOUR ancestors came to America, there were MINIMAL barriers - only "good health and an ability to support oneself" mattered.

Then the WASPS got all scared from all those strange speaking "smelly" Easter European, "drunk fighting" Irish, "mafia" Italians - you get the picture - and all these ARTIFICIAL barriers were enacted.

Turn the fucking clock back - get RID of these discriminatory barriers.

The country never prospered so much as when the immigration rules were MINIMAL and DECENT, instead of the RACIST and PHOBIC ones we have now!
