Anyone hear about tomorrow's "Not One Damn Dime Day?"
Immigrants contribute $240 billion to our Gross National Product every
year, including contributing $7 billion in Social Security annually. They
contribute to the U.S. economy $25 billion more than they receive in healthcare
and other social services. The anti-immigrant politicians and hatemongers say,
'immigrants are a drain on society.' It's time to prove them wrong. It's time to
make our voices heard, in support of immigrants and in support of immigration.

The nationwide coalition of pro-immigrant groups is calling for a general strike
on May 1 -- a boycott to show the economic power of immigrants and their
supporters, and to show the political power of our combined voices. The basics
of the boycott:

No Work, No School, No Sales, and No Buying.

There will be rallies around symbols of economic trade in your area (stock
exchanges, anti-immigrant corporations, and other public places). Wear white as
the symbol of unity. And avoid as much spending as you can on Monday, May 1.

Together, a million voices will be heard, and will make a difference. We believe
with numbers we have power, the power currently necessary to keep the pressure
on the White House to propose provisions that are just and fair for all
immigrants.

If the anti-immigrant politicians and hatemongers are right, that 'immigrants
are a drain on society,' then during the day on May 1st, the stock market will
surge, and the economy will boom. If not, we prove them wrong once and for all.
We know what will happen!

We will settle for nothing less than full amnesty and dignity for the millions
of undocumented workers presently in the U.S. We believe that increased
enforcement is a step in the wrong direction and will only serve to facilitate
more tragedies along the Mexican-U.S. border in terms of deaths and family
separation.

******************************

Not One Damn Dime supports the Great American Boycott. The news reports leading
up to May 1 have emphasized the 'split' among organizers. There is no split --
all pro-immigrant groups support a large-scale protest on May 1. Many groups
differ on tactics, especially whether it's effective to avoid work and school on
May 1. But all groups are unified in support of recognition of the contribution
of immigrants, and in support of improving immigrant rights.

We recommend you do what you can on Monday, May 1st. Stay home from work or
school if you feel that will be effective. If you go to work, wear white, to
show solidarity. Avoid spending as much as possible. Attend rallies in your
area. If nothing else, wear a white armband, so people will ask about it, and
you can spread the word about the Great American Boycott.

Read more in the press about the protest activities and nationwide impact, on
our website http://www.NotOneDamnDome.com/ . Then click on the link for your
part of the country, to find where rallies are being held. And spread the word
that 'All People Are Legal.'

The first Not One Damn Dime Day, on inauguration day 2005, garnered
participation by several million people, and our voices were heard by tens of
millions more, protesting conservative Republican policies. The May 1st protest
focuses on immigration policies, and we support the method of economic boycott,
as well as the goals of immigration reform in favor of more immigration rights.

2. I know. A fool and his money, blah blah blah
I'll be respecting this one. I'm not working right now, so it's going to be easy for me to sit home and plant my own flowers and not spend a dime.

I wish my Hispanic friends and neighbors success. Anybody who thinks this country can cope if everybody who speaks Spanish is somehow eliminated from it is delusional.

Heck, even my great great Granny was a Spaniard. We're everywhere.

3. I Won't Be on the Same Side as Bush
I will not be on the same side as George W. Bush and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Sad to say that many progressives are getting their compassion for individuals -- forced into this country by poverty in other nations -- confused with what is in the best economic interests of working class American citizens.

The mega-transnational corporations and business exploiters of cheap labor are loving what they are seeing from the so-called "immigrant rights" organizations. They have succeeded in getting anti-NAFTA, anti-globalization people and groups on their side on this issue ... It is now just a small step to getting these folks on board the theory that we all will be better off if there is free trade and no economic borders throughout the entire world -- ie. globalization.

I understand the thrill of mass marches and mass boycotts ... but I do believe powerless, illegal immigrants and well intentioned progressives and liberals are being played for suckers by the likes of Bush and his globalization corporate cronies.

4. Trying to harm the American economy is NOT....
the way to go to make their point. To try to do harm to the country they want to call their own? It will make legal middle class Americans angry. I am neither a right wing nut or a freeper but I will be shopping tomorrow.

5. I won't be shopping tomorrow, or going to work.
Many of those Latinos people complain about are dying and suffering today in Iraq fighting for a corrupt political system in America that should really be overthrown if anyone had any sense.

Did you know that our glorious military is using citizenship as a selling point to potential recruits? Before you blame Bush for that, Lincoln did the same thing during the Civil War. He had military recruiters getting immigrants to sign up to go to war.

Our freedoms were paid by the blood of those that American society holds in the least esteem: immigrants, women, minorities.

7. you better watch out, you better not cry.....
cuz you are getting in the way of the "we are all helpless victims of the evil empire" gang. Not only that you are daring to have a different view and/or opinion that makes you evil in the eyes of lots of people here. If you don't agree you are obviously a hate mongering right wing evil white racist. the continuum model posits that extremes are not at opposite ends of a line. rather, they are joined together at the meeting point of a line curved into a circle.
