Dean Calls FCC Probe of Breast Incident 'Silly'
http://www.reuters.com/printerFriendlyPopup.jhtml?type=politicsNews&storyID=4266802

Howard Dean, a physician and a Democratic presidential candidate, on Monday dismissed as "silly" a government inquiry into whether indecency rules were broken during the broadcast of the Super Bowl halftime show when pop diva Janet Jackson's bodice was ripped to expose her right breast.

"I find that to be a bit of a flap about nothing," the former Vermont governor said. "I'm probably affected in some ways by the fact that I'm a doctor, so it's not exactly an unusual phenomenon for me."

<snip>

"In general, I think the FCC does have a role in promoting some reasonable standard of decency," Dean told reporters aboard his campaign plane. "However, considering what's on television these days, I think the FCC is being pretty silly about investigating this."

For once, I agree with Gov. Dean.

1. I can't believe the hoopla over this
Obviously Mr. Powell has never been on a European beach. Children over there have no problem about seeing women's breasts. We are such a screwed up nation.

4. Thing is
it was intentional. If the FCC doesn't take some strong action then whats next. I really have little sympathy for todays music stars and the music industry as a whole.

what's next? a half a nipple? A whole 1? Gee that would really be armageddon.

Kids don't sexualize breasts, adults do. And this wasn't even a real breast

10. to all repliers
first off calm the hell down.

If you want to have nudity allowed on broadcast tv as entertainment, then change the laws. But don't make excuses for million dollar crybabies who gave up any effort of art years ago, and now just use their bodies to make money in such a cheap way.

We all have the right to our opinions yes?

7. What's next?
What're you afraid of? That maybe sex will be rampant on TV? or in society? Wait a minute, it already is!

Better sex than violence I guess. Oh no, wait one more, there's already more violence than anything else in our society!

Geez, we'd all better move to the wilderness, cause there's no going back to puritan times unless you join Bob Jones U.

9. Show me nipples instead of guns and violence
A nipple has never killed someone.
A nipple is one of the first things a child sees.
A nipple represents life.

Anyone who takes offense to a woman's breast has bigger issues to deal with (I'm talking to you, Mr. Ashcroft.)

11. This is a bad move by Dean.
This bothered a lot of people in middle america. Is Howard Dean the kind of moral leader people are going to flock too. I agree that it's overblown, but Dean is out of touch with Americans outside of VT.

13. I think the incident was highly INAPROPRIATE for the SB, however...
I agree with Dean an investigation is silly and stupid.

However for all of those that claim this is just like a European beach...WRONG. I've been there and seen that and yes, children just learn that it is natural.

There is nothing natural about an aggressive move by a man towards a women where he rips off her clothing exposing her breasts in a pseudo soft-porn pre-rape portrayal done by MTV that was during a SUPERBOWL GAME WHERE MILLIONS OF children are watching. I'm disgusted that middle-aged, phoney boobed Janet would participate.

Big dif folks. It's not the boob, it's the scenario, can't you get that?
