Is this photo fake?
Edited on Wed Mar-29-06 10:21 AM by HFishbine
Take a look at this photograph.

It is from a campaign commercial for conservative Republican Vernon Robinson who is running for congrees in the 13th district of North Carolina.

I'm not sure the photo is real. The first thing that jumped out at me is that "dike" is misspelled. The lettering looks like it could possibly be photoshopped onto the signs. Maybe it's real, but I wonder if anybody recognizes the photo and can perhaps identify its original source.

2. Could be "real" ...
in the sense that they made the signs, handed to these women and took a picture.

The question I have is why would they hide their faces?

open it with Photoshop and tweak the contrast up slowly. It is one possible way to find out if it has been manipulated. The additions borders will stand out.

11. Staged. Other shots in the commercial are also staged.
Edited on Wed Mar-29-06 10:00 AM by onehandle
However, I have seen those messages in shots of gay pride parades. They were displayed in a light-hearted manner to make a point. For the commerical they made these to pull the meaning out of context.

This staged photo is made to look like the hateful "God Hates Fags" Phelps whackos.

12. It's gotta be a doctored photo...
I live in NC, and I remember the shenanigans Robinson pulled when he ran against Virginia Foxx (also a Repuke candidate) before in the previous election. They had a "debate" that was televised here and basically turned into a pissing contest. His campaign commercials then were as hokey and bizarre as the photo you brought up.

Robinson is an extreme fundie Repuke and will do anything to get elected. Fortunately, he's not from my district, but he's from the neighboring district. He won't get elected this time either unless he has some dirt on the incumbent that he brings up during the campaign. He's one of those guys that runs for office all the time but never gets elected.

Also, he's known for his terrible grammar and spelling, so I'm pretty sure it's a fake photo.

16. Your district
Chick, not sure what district you are in, but this time Robinson is running in a neighboring district -- mine! The thirteenth, currently represented by Democrat Brad Miller -- it runs from parts of Greensboro eastward to Raleigh.

Just west of yours. I don't think you have Vernon Robinson to worry about this time around since he's a nutjob, but who knows???

You have a similar situation, only different. Your choice will be between in-district Rebpublican Howard Coble or out-of-district Democrat Rory Blake (from Charlotte, I believe) .

lying and misleading in order to get their "message" across. Are homosexuals, just in themselves, not "outrageous" enough for your average North Carolina Republic voter? This sleazy candidate has to lie about "what gays think" or "how they act" so that the dim-witted NC Republic voters will "understand", "They's bad"... :eyes:

Edited on Wed Mar-29-06 10:15 AM by Canuckistanian
Gay or lesbian activists wouldn't waste their time with such useless, cryptic messages. There are far more important issues to protest.

Nor would they try to bait fundies. That's the kind of thing that gets you beaten up or worse.

And the spelling mistake IS an obvious giveaway. "Dike" may be accepted by the dictionary, but not in actual gay culture.

spelled "dyke" correctly.

These are Freepers at most, a Photoshopped photo at least.
