Reid: We See No End to Bush's Dangerous Incompetence
REID: WE SEE NO END TO BUSH'S DANGEROUS INCOMPETENCE

Washington, DC—Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid released the following statement on President Bush’s remarks today on the war in Iraq:

“Three years into the war in Iraq, with that country now experiencing a low-grade civil war, it has become increasingly clear that President Bush is content with an open-ended commitment with no end in sight for our U.S. troops and taxpayers. He even said that the continued U.S. troop presence in Iraq would be decided by ‘future Presidents,’ suggesting a military commitment to Iraq that was never contemplated or approved by the American people.

“Last year, Congress overwhelmingly called on President Bush to make 2006 a year of significant transition to full Iraqi sovereignty. The domestic public relations campaign waged by the White House and the new round of Presidential speeches does not advance that goal. President Bush must accept that he has to change course, reject the notion of an open-ended commitment in Iraq, and finally develop the plan that allows our troops to begin to come home.”

1. No end to it? How about impeachment?
That would end it. Or you could at least support a freaking censure! It's the least you can do.

3. Keep poking him Harry
I wonder if bush's handlers let him read this stuff. I also hope that Harry's ulterior motive is to piss bush off so bad he will fuck up in public, and hopefully soon. Harry is always poking away with the truth and the last thing the white house wants to hear is the truth.

4. Dangerous incompetence really hits the mark.
The casual voter can understand it easily. I'll save LIHOP for the more informed.

6. Hey Reid! When are the Dems going to make a stand?
The longer you wait the more lives lost, the more tax dollars spent and the more arrogant this administration becomes. Drastic measures need to be taken to get us out of this mess and set this country back on a course of humanity for humanity's sake!

7. The time is ripe for Dems to do something
But I don't see much going on. Little support for impeachment, little support for censure, no common message. Bush is down in the polls, he's lying to the people, and they know it now, and the opposing party is doing...

...nothing. WTF?

I'd sure like to see some support for impeachment. There are a lot of things that this administration has done that should be looked at. And yet nothing is happening.

9. Too bad the alternative is a big fat question mark
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 03:06 PM by Strawman
"Dangerous incompetence." That's a good slogan and an effective two-word critique. Time to agree on a friggin' alternative and present it to the public with some coherence and conviction.

"Last year Congress overwhelmingly called on President Bush to make 2006 a year of significant transition to full Iraqi soverignty."

Are you serious, Harry? "Overwhlemingly?" If Congressional opposition to the President's conduct of war is his idea of "overwhelming," I'm surprised this guy can tie his shoes without having a panic attack.

14. I see no end to Reid's weakness as Party Leader and his capitulation..
Press release like these are intended to sooth the nerves of the base, but action from this Senator would be much more meaningful.

Shutting down the Senate a few months ago, was seen (by me and others) as a courageous, principled, and critical action. He hasn't done anything on that scale or of that significance since. Instead he has back peddled, capitulated, ducked and ran for cover and worse apologized whenever he made the most minimal action - posting charges of corruption and wrong doing of the Repukes on the website, but then swiftly taken down at the first instance of "criticism".

20. DANGEROUS INCOMPETENCE is the theme
I'm sure there's a pile of polling data that pulled those terms together as most effectively attacking Bush. We know he's evil, but many voters are convinced he's just incompetent. He's both, of course - evil and incompetent.
