There goes Tweety again...
Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 03:38 PM by reichstag911
...from Salon.com's War Room (subs. req.) ( http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/ ):

This just in

For all the talk about Bush's bubble, one has to wonder about the translucent sphere in which Chris Matthews has been hanging out. The president's job approval ratings have been in the negative range for almost a year now, but Matthews -- who spends five nights a week talking about politics on "Hardball" -- seems to be shocked by the news.

As Media Matters notes, Matthews was proclaiming as late as November that "everybody sort of likes the president, except for the real whack-jobs, maybe on the left." News to the contrary seemed to sink in for Matthews earlier this week, when he had to come to terms with a Wall Street Journal/NBC News Poll that found that 50 percent of the public has a "somewhat negative" or "very negative" view of the president. Matthews read the poll results on the air and declared himself "amazed."

Now, it seems, he's just bewildered. As we noted Thursday, respondents in a new Pew Research Center poll used words liked "incompetent" to describe Bush, and Matthews says he just can't believe it. "I checked this twice," he said on last night's show. "I couldn‘t believe it, but it's true -- forty-eight percent of the people responding to this poll used such words as 'incompetent,' 'idiot,' and 'liar' to describe our president. Kate O'Beirne, what happened to respect?"

We've got a different question to ask: What ever happened to having a clue?

AND MY EMAIL TO HARDBALL:

Dear Mr. Matthews:

I'm taking the liberty of answering the question you posed last night to Ms. O'Beirne; I hope you don't mind too much. The answer to your question, "Kate O'Beirne, what happened to respect?" is a simple one, if indirect. Chris, respect, unlike wealth or even the presidency, is not something your Poppy can give you or arrange to have it given to you. It must be earned. That is something that Bush has never grasped; clearly, neither do you, Tweety.

Best,
-------------

1. Kudos on a GREAT email ...
You are correct about respect -- it must be earned and this prez hasn't even BEGUN to do that (IMHO).

Respect isn't an entitlement.

Peace.

6. Good for you. I saw it and thought the same thing.
Later someone was going on about the Jessica Simson (ugh) thing and talking about how she should have gone out of "respect for the Office".

Not a Jessica Simpson fan, I just thought I heard that on some news show that she would gladly meet privately with the Bush, but did not want to be a part of a fundraiser for the Republican party.

8. Matthews is SUCH a tool!
You'd think the cretin would at least TRY to appear non-partisan, but he wears his love for bush on his sleeve, and in his pants too, I believe. He was SOOOO impressed with bush in his fighter pilot's costume, the "mission accomplished" photo-op. bush's sock bulge really got to Tweety. His latent homosexuality was very apparent and he hasn't stopped drooling over bush since.

Respect? :wtf: Like the respect he gave Bill Clinton during the Republican's witch-hunt into his private sex-life?

You're spot-on with your assessment that respect is earned, not given. Of course bush has been given everything in his lifetime, "earning" isn't one of the words in his very limited vocabulary.

Matthews is a sucking, fawning bush sycophant. This could be one of the reasons that his show is so lowly rated, being a complete idiot, another.
