Thoughts that went through my mind about Claude Allen
After reading this in Newsweek:

"As George W. Bush's top domestic-policy adviser, Allen stuck close to the boss. He was Bush's frequent companion on Air Force One, and helped stage-manage issues like Social Security and education. A born-again Christian (his wife home-schools their four kids) and credentialed conservative (he got his start as an aide to Sen. Jesse Helms), the 45-year-old lawyer was regarded as a man on his way up in Republican politics. Party leaders, always on the lookout for conservative black candidates, pegged Allen as a future congressman or senator."

First, that the term "conservative black" is an oxymoron (OK, start flaming me)

Two that, again, the "holier than thou" a person is, the more corrupt he is. And, it is the Republicans who hold themselves at a higher level than the rest of us, with their bible thumping, with their "left behind" stories, with their suffocating any meaningful debate when they claim that this is what "god" said. (whose god, by the way? theirs or the islamic suicide bombers'? their actions, too, are guided by their "god").

Always, always. Show me a person who is "pillar of the community" active in his church, and I will show you extra marital affairs and out of wedlock children, plus spousal and/or child abuse.

They think that going to church every day and mumbling the name of Jesus gives them a free hand to abuse everyone else.

There, done with my rant.

1. My stepmother, a Catholic, goes to church everyday.
She is a magnificient woman, 75 years old, who gives and gives and gives and gives to her family. She is totally selfless.

She is a pillar of her family and her community.

I am an atheist, but I love my stepmother very much, and she has gone to church every day for 50 years. I don't think you can paint this picture with such a broad brush. My stepmother is not Claude Allen.

Looking back at what I wrote, I think that I had men as examples. Real case examples.

Sorry if I offended you.

one's who wear it on their sleeves and boast about it in a sanctimonious, overly pious way are the ones I've found in my life...one has to be on guard against.

I have lots of very devout people in my family who are tolerant and never speak about their faith they just practice it.

I think that's what you were getting at. What we have with those Bush Bot types are fake religious. They used their religion to get where they are and if they are Christians then they sure aren't the followers of the New Testament that I've been around in my life or that I was taught about as a Christian.

I think they (BushBot types) are "pretenders." And, anyone who thinks that someone like Falwell who advocates assassination of people or Ann Coulter who constantly advocates killing and ridicules her fellow Earth inhabitants is a Christian must have some screws loose...

4. Yes, this is pretty much it.
Too many examples of people like that, and one more was just added to the list.
