This rant is about YOU
Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 02:50 PM by underpants
Yeah YOU.

I started out by reading one of the most horrible pieces of crap "journalism" I have ever read. I am not attacking the messenger here but when I hear this as the centerpiece of rightwing radio AND the center of outrage here on DU I see that you all took the damned bait.

The Feingold Resolution and the Sound of Silence

Just look at the absurd wordage that Milbank uses:
demurred
protested
an awkward wait
tried to hide from reporters
out a back door as if escaping a fire
nonplused
darted out of an elevator and into lunch when he thought nobody was looking.

And you all are buying this crap? Since when is the press reporting on anything close to the truth?

Look at these headlines from google news of "feingold censure"

Feingold Censure Move May Give Bush a Boost on Security Debate
Democrats See Feingold's Censure Resolution As Political Boomerang
Censure stunt

Do any of those make any sense? They do? HOW?

A motion to at least censure is filed TWO DAYS AGO and the press gets their marching orders to criticize the Democrats for not running out to microphones to offer some short term resolution, in terms of supporting it, and you buy this?

Hell the press actually reported on the Republicans sitting around a hospice in Florida a year ago doing nothing but saying "There are a lot of questions" to each other in different ways for over a MONTH and the whole country stopped to listen to it. Every stinking day. Dragging it out. Now the Democrats provide the perfect non-ending fodder for talk shows and what happens? Nothing in fact it is turned around on them in 48 hours by whom? .....THE PRESS

And you buy this?

This is right out of the playbook-turn a strength (someone actually stood up and did something in the US CONGRESS) into a weakness----> decisiveness is timidity and indecision. And you buy this?

Bush gets a WIN by having his blatant crime brought into the light- the official documented light?

And you buy this?

Seriously people it has been TWO DAYS. They dragged a non-event (Whitewater) on for what 6 years and created mission creep on the likes never even imagined before. Let's see, who was it that fostered and nurtured that nonsense daily? thinking...... hmm who was it now.....

Call your Senators. Tell them we want really long drawn out hearings on this. We want ever tiny little detail investigated and then investigated again and THEN ask them about it again.

The point here is that doing things in one or two news cycles gets you just that one or two news cycles. So everyone isn't supporting it yet did it ever dawn on you that that was the STINKING POINT?

3. Yeah..and maybe we need to tell them
that we want a responsible media to report on those hearings, too. . .even if that means asking the Canadians to do it for us.

but I am seriously wondering if Dick has the goods on a bunch of our's over something, because they act like they're being black mailed. Something just isn't right anyway.

Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 02:29 PM by leveymg
Feingold's maneuver could cost them seats in GOP states. Hence the elaborate (Democratic) efforts to avoid comment."

They still think they can win the battle by default, and that anything they do to engage will help the other side.

We're fucked.

If the GOP had adopted this do-nothing strategy in 1993, we'd be talking about President Gore right now.

6. Any Dem rep who DOESN'T know how the press works - should quit.
Our seasoned politicians know all about news cycles and press playbooks. THEY let this happen by NOT running to the closest microphone and supporting Feingold.

7. The media completely SMELLS on this. GOPs are attacking ANWR again TODAY
while the activists are DISTRACTED by a censure that Feingold has already moved to committee.

Kerry is for censure, but TODAY he is BUSY with the attack on ANWR.

Can Dems get it thru their skulls that this is exactly how GOPs and the mediawhores work in tandem against us?

10. Frankly, I'm so mad about the shunning of Feingold, and what that
implies, that ANWR can go to hell. Kerry, and the rest of them, too.

17. You were spun - Kerry supports Feingold and his office was the first to
say he supports censure yesterday.

He's being attacked because he's busy on ANWR right now by fools led by pisspoor reporting on the censure.

Since when has Dana Milbank reported ANYTHING accurately?

19. They're emphasizing discord and minimizing support. Kerry and Boxer
offices said they were supportive of censure yesterday and Harkin just signed up to co=sponsor and I'm pretty sure Durbin is supportive, too.

But media is playing it against Feingold AND against Dems to foster discord.

8. Really ...I'm innocent
Two days ago I called all of the Democratic senators with the message to be united on this important issue. It took all of 40 minutes and I felt great when I was done. Listening to the fallout of this is getting on my last nerve. If the Democrats do not stand together we have to move on and find a party that will do the job. I don't think this country can take three more years of this!

12. I think you're right.
Again, we're letting the Corporate Media tell us what's going on and how we should feel about it when they have demonstrated again and again that they do not care about the truth, us, or our democracy. They are about keeping their corporate masters in charge.

Edited to add: I called Feingold's office as well, letting them know way over in WI that I stood behind him 100%.

16. So what should Democrats do?
How about geting on board, with no further hedging, hemming or hawing? How about getting out front on an issue for once, instead of hesitating and creating the appearance (true or not) of political calculation taking precedence over principle?

22. Oh man who gives a flying fuck about Dana hes a hitman, remember
the conyers piece.

Everything else though is right on target, Russ is in the right there are some Dems starting to support him and thats good.

Though Russ was very truthful yesterday when he said they cower... they do an dif you cant except that.. fine. Russ and the majority disagree with you. If you have a problem with that take it up with them. Lashing out at DU'ers in such a way does nothing but accomplish an ego stroke for you and all the others here that dont liek to ever hear a bad word uttered about "their" Dems even though they are our Dems as well and we want them to quit fucking around and fight. The world cant wait anymore, no matter how much triangulation, expediency, and strategy went into whatever failed plan the have been working on the last 6 years to stop this insane new american fascism.

23. The Feingold Resolution and "Bridge Over Troubled Water"
Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 05:26 PM by Uncle Joe
would have been a much better and more appropriate title from the author at the Washinton Post, if you are intent on mixing Simon and Garfunkel music with Feingold's attempt at saving our democracy from turning in to a totalitarian state.

I am confident, the majority of the hand full of CEO's or owners of the 80-90% of the corporate owned MSM want us to be a totalitarian state and will lie, obfuscate, ignore, demean, or spin negatively anything or anybody with a remote chance of thwarting their dreams. This is just their latest attempt at betraying the American People.

Kicked and recommended
