"Anti-choice" is more accurate than "pro-life" because....
They are not more "pro-life" than anyone else. They are not the only people that are going to be in Heaven. They are not more "moral" than other Americans. It is about whether they would like to restrict women from having control of their bodies. It is not because they so love the little babies. They are hypocrites when they say so. They are "anti-choice". They do not believe women are equal to men. They do not believe the Constitution plays any part in it.

1. THANK YOU!!!
I've been braying about that for more than thirty years, and the pro-choice people don't seem to understand the incredible power of language.

Take it away from those rightwing simpletons, take it away and make them tell the truth about what they are:

They are NOT pro-life.

They truly are ANTI-CHOICE. And I refuse to refer to them in any other way.

Why don't the leaders of the pro-choice movement understand this and go after them? Jesus, it fries my butt.

2. The Phrase "Pro-Life", Sir
Edited on Sun Mar-12-06 07:04 PM by The Magistrate
Is a murdering, weaseling, dishonest usage that no person should ever employ. Those on the right who created it should never be refered to as anything as anti-abortion freaks, by anyome not of their damnable ilk.

Never, ever, use the enemy's chosen titles and phrases: it cedes a good part of the field before the battle starts....

on edit: changed subject to original intent....

"No fool like an old fool."

9. Rubbish.
Leaving the decision with the woman whose life is on the line is our position, always has been, always will be.

The opposition is pro reproductive slavery.

We are prochoice.

12. Well then...what would your words of "choice" to describe the issue be?
How better can we "FRAME" this? And, I ask this honestly not as a "snark."

14. For Us, Ma'am
Pro-Choice is fine.

For the enemy, anti-abortion freaks, woman-hating creeps, turds who want to tell everyone else what to do, all work pretty well in my view....

15. My Apologies To Those Who Replied To The Original Comment, Before Edit
Edited on Sun Mar-12-06 07:11 PM by The Magistrate
I did not notice what I had typed, and really should have, as I had managed to produce the exact opposite of my intent. I am glad I noticed, at least, just before the editing period expired.

I now understand the reactions provoked, that were before a mystery to me....

3. You're quite correct--pro-life people oppose the death penalty...
and most of those bastards would gleefully push the plunger to put down a convict strapped to a guerney.

started using "pro-forced birth, woman-hating anti-choicers" to make sure they all get the message.

Besides "pro-life" is about 180-degrees from the truth.

I'm sorry, but supporting the death penalty, shock and awe, cruel sanctions, and policies that culminate in the US's high infant mortality rate aren't anywhere near the neighborhood of pro-life.

And it would behoove the Dems to point this out on occasion.

7. I also agree with you and the other posters 100%!
If these hypocrites were really "pro-life" they would not support the death penalty, pre-emptive war, and they would sure as hell be more supportive of pre-natal health care for everyone, as well as child health care, school lunches, education, job training and all the other things that make life worth living for those children after they leave the womb.

Anyone who believes this whole "pro-life" thing is anything other than old, white men trying to control women's lives and bodies is being very badly fooled.

8. They are pro- back alley abortionists. Simple cause and
effect. I heard the term first from another DUer but feel it most accurately describes them, or more accurately the events they will force to occur due to their freakish need to control women's bodies.

I will refer to them as this from now on. It is exactly what they are. How many women will die? How many will be saved by nicely calling them anti-choice?

19. And "Anti-Choice" goes to the heart of their "Doctrinaire Think Tanks Crap
where THEY decide what's best for US what to think....and you make a good point that "Anti-Choice" equals "Anti-Woman" = Doctrine of Pre-Emptive Strike and one could "equate out" forever...their little code words and Bush /RIGHT WING SPEAKS to trash ANYONE who just has a different opinion...and a VALID OPINION for Debate....yet all is lost in the "Spin." :-(

20. They will use it, we, certainly, should not
And I agree with those who would like to replace the word "choice" that has a consumer connotation, with "privacy" that is more visceral like... well.. the word life.

23. It's anti-abortion.
That's the clearest description of their position.

Pro-choice supporters tend to run away from that term, because we mistakenly think we need to come up with an opposite to describe our stand. Nobody is pro-abortion. We ARE pro-choice.

24. Abortion is the only human rights issue,
that conservatives can twist around with. All others, liberals are clearly more on the side of human rights. Only by turning fetuses or zygotes into babies can they get any traction. They are pro-death in ALL other issues.

25. Some people on that side are "Pro-life" and some are not
There are good people who truly think that they are doing what is right to try to make abortion illegal. These good people are being manipulated by a bunch of shallow power brokers who are using their convictions to get votes, but really don't care about the abortion issue deep down.

I support Roe v Wade, not because I think abortion is a wonderful thing, but because I can think of the 2 or 3 situations in which I would have one performed and I would not want any laws or government entity in my way.

There were 2 girls in my high school who got pregnant in their sophmore or junior years. One went away for a semester, had her baby, gave her up for adoption, came back to school that fall and graduated on time. The other girl had an abortion.

At my class reunion, the girl who had given her baby up was happily married, had a couple of kids, a college education and a good life overall.

The other girl got stabbed to death shortly after graduation in a laundromat in the hooker neighborhood. She was never the same girl after the abortion-she started using drugs and being promiscuous (as opposed to only sleeping with one's boyfriend).

There are a lot of ways to look at the differences between the girls, but both came from equally troubled households in a middle class suburb. I'm sure the abortion was not the only factor in the girl's downward spiral that led to her death, but it still was a factor.

I wish people would be more sexually responsible. If the girl who died had perhaps used protection or had had enough self-esteem to say no to her boyfriend, maybe she wouldn't have met such an untimely demise. Maybe if she had given her child up like the other girl, she could have had more peace. Perhaps she didn't realize that there were other options, and let her boyfriend (who was at the class reunion, and also had a very successful life)make the decision for her.

Those are situations and issues that young people should consider before they even consider becoming sexually active. Being pregnant and 16 was a situation I never wanted to face, and I lived my life in a way so that didn't happen.
