kudos to Senator Harkin: withdrawal is "THE ONLY SOLUTION"
what? can this be true? a Democrat in the Senate calling for immediate withdrawal ... now, in all fairness, the article is a bit brief and does not fully clarify Harkin's exact plan ... but there's no mistaking his statement that withdrawal should begin immediately to "extricate ourselves from that quagmire over there."

The difference between this statement, somewhat vague though it is, and all the other previous plans from the Democratic Senate is that there is no mention of conditions here ... no benchmarks, no maybe by the end of 2006 or 2007 IF "things go well", nothing ... just a plain acknowledgement that the best plan is to get the hell out ... NOW !!!

a mega-kudos to Harkin for leading the way if this is a correct interpretation of his statement ... maybe some of the others will jump on the bandwagon ... it's time for Democrats to demand sanity from this WH instead of continually voting to give bush more funding for war ...

the following was previously posted by another DU'er in LBN:

Iowa Senator Tom Harkin has called for the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq, saying it's the only solution after recent religious violence in that nation.
The Iowa Democrat says Iraq is now in a civil war. He says American withdrawal should begin immediately to--quote--"extricate ourselves from that quagmire over there."

Harkin's comments place him among the first members of Congress to publicly state that the war in Iraq has become a fight between Muslim factions. <skip>

2. glad it's getting some attention ...
i do not "tweety" ...

apparently Harkin made this statement a few days ago ... the powerful reaction from his Senate colleagues is, ummmmm, well, uhhhhhh, you might sorta say, ya knowwwwwww, underwhelming ...

maybe when you're doing well in the polls you don't want to rock the boat, or the vote, by doing the right thing ...

or have others joined Harkin??

4. The only solution was to count all the votes in 2000.... and we failed
completely and miserably on that point.
